Any of you guys try to build one of these? I think I've finally got mine done. After a few months of building the computer, researching parts and software, I'm finally loading my CD's in. I've been collecting them for the better part of 30 years, and I still would rather buy the CD than download songs.

I am an audiophile at heart and have a high end music system I'm setting this up for. I'm getting itchey now as for the past few days I've been loading music, and have only stopped , (during normal hours anyway), once to try the sound card on my system. Otherwise, the computer is sitting next to my other one, and I'm just sitting here changing discs to load them up.

I'm about 500 CD's in. Only about 1500 to go!!!!!

I use Verizon Fios. It streams music to all the TV's in the house.

According to Winamp I have 1201 Artists, 5432 Albums, and 70028 Tracks.

Part of the problem with streaming music is alot of the information becomes lost due to compression and reduction of file size to make streaming possible. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with that, just it's not for me.

I'm not sure I follow the difference then what you have. I mean my music stays on my main pc. All the computers and set top boxes are connected by the FIOS router. My main computer has a a Soundblaster soundcard and a 5.1 surround speaker system on it. My computer is essentially my stereo. Are you ripping the CD's on to the computer? Unless you are using FLAC or other lossless format you will lose some info.

Yes, I'm ripping all the CD's and am using Lossless format. Also have an optical output on the soundcard to go into my D/A converters.

I have a 2 TB hard drive in it. I'm still wondering if it will be enough. I know in the future, I'll have to add another drive, (there is room for it, but the longer I wait, the cheaper and larger they become).

Another Audiophile !! I am still putting my main home setup. Picked up a pair of Spica speakers this fall ( look and sound brand new) for 150 bucks. They are very good , but lack any low's . So, I had to pick up a new Sub, decided on a Pinnacle 600 watt dual 8" little sub that is very musical yet packs punch. Together this is a remarkable setup= Accurate, full, but still tight. My Denon is still a nice AVR - but getting old. It never had the great sound of my old sound design separates had. BUT I am too lazy - the old sound design has no remote!! Imagine , actually getting up to turn it up/down/etc. Beyond understanding!!

We'll talk when you come over. I have something that may be able to keep you from getting up and down. It wasn't it's sole purpose, but does a very good job at covering that, and I used it for that for years. I'm running a Pioneer Elite reciever, mainly because of the D/A converters in it, (Burr-Brown). I really love the way they convert pianos.
