THANKS RED!
I bought a borb last week..it made it 30 hrs before perishing. the LFS had him for a while so I was perplexed. Come to find out they were running very, very low salinity. The best explanation I have is that the nearly 2 hr drip acclimation wasn't enough for him to make the transition to 1.025. I will never understand why even these "good" LFS stores operate the way they do. If it's cost that drives this behavior then just double the price on all fish, run the system appropriately, and give me a mediocre guarantee. Looks like the LFS will be losing my frequent business. Any good recommendations for an online borb supplier?
That's a good idea! I think mine came from 1.011!!!That totally sucks... it hurts even more on such an expensive fish!
FWIW next time (if there is a next time)
I got my Borb home (I was told by the dude at the LFS the salinity was 1.020) so I matched a 10G QT to 1.020 and I am letting evaporation bring up the salinity. Should take a few days... great way to get him eating too although that wasn't an issue for this fat bastid!
Man, sorry to hear that! This sucks! I have bad luck with fish too...the more I get to know other people, i fins they also have bad luck. Most don't want to admit it out of pride or embarrassment. I'm at the point of settling for a tank full of clowns and blue damsels!!! I found another borb at a LFS that's been there for 3 weeks but they have a questionable reputation and no warranty!!! Liveaquaria wants $300!Well FML!
I woke up to a dead Borb this morning... I have no idea what happened. I have 2 ammonia alert badges... Salinity was 1.025.... 78 degrees.... 10 Gallon Qt with AC50 filled with seeded Saporix. An air stone driven seeded sponge. 5G water change 48 hours ago....
I have such terrible luck with fish OR I am extremely incompetent despite great efforts...
It wold not eat yesterday... I was a little worried but not too worried....
I wish I could do an autopsy and find out what happened...

Even with the "brown" coloration, yours are some of the nicest I've seen. Absolutely beautiful.Hello fellow reefers. I was able to purchase two beautiful Borbonius Anthias from a lfs in Fremont, CA. Both measure up to atleast 2 inches. All photos were taken at the lfs with my camera phone.
Before I purchased them, I made sure that both were eating well. The lfs fed them Mysis and sure enough, there was a feeding frenzy in each tank. When I took both of them home, I separated them into different breeder boxes I purchased from PetSmart. I fed them Mysis and a little NLS pellets. The Mysis they quickly attacked, but the pellets, they left alone. I hope to train them to eat pellets in the next few weeks, before I release them in the display tank.
With both of them displaying different coloration, does anybody know how to get the pink color in the body to show more as compared to the beige coloration?
Below is the 1st one that caught my eye. I fell in love with the deep pink coloration and golden blotches.

Here is the 2nd one that I purchased. This one's body coloration is a combination of beige and pink with dark brown blotches.
