Official: Masterflex Calcium Reactor Setup Thread

While you are waiting on your pump to arrive you should install a new 1/4" push to fit connector into the lid(unless there is one already there I don't see). If you don't have the correct bits or don't feel comfortable doing it take it to an acrylic shop.[/QUOTE]

Ahhhh, I missed that little tidbit in your very first post of this thread!! Got it, plug the effluent out fitting on the plumbing stack and drill for new fitting in the lid. I will get that done today! Thanks for all the help.

I have the opportunity to buy a 7553-70 6-600RPM or a 7553-80 1-100RPM with a easy-load 7518-60 from a fellow local reefer for 240$. I believe i want the 6-600RPM correct? Also, does anyone have any experience with this unit, and is this unit going to work well for reactor use. I will be using a GEO 618 and AP reg. I believe this to be a brushed unit, which I've read are on the louder side. I'm not sensitive to noise, but it will be in the living room, does anyone else have a brushed unit in their living space? Thanks in advance.

Those look to be in great shape! Either will work, the reason I recommend a 6-600 is the motor speed is the same, it's the gear ratio that is different. A 6-600 rpm drive will spin its motor at 1/6 the speed, less wear and noise.

Since he is local go test the unit and see which one is tolerable, if neither is then hold out for a brushless unit.

You're welcome :), hope drilling and tapping went well.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully the noise will not be an issue, and I can join the masterflex club.

A question just occurred to me...
When using two heads, how do you get them to turn opposite directions of each other, for AWC.

You don't, they turn the same way. You just run the input line from first pump from SW to DT then input line from second head from DT to drain.

Here's pic of my CaRx and CP I just set up last night!

It's a Cole-Parmer 77521-50 with a 7518-00 head.
It's currently running on "2" which is giving me basically a broken stream.
At this speed it's almost inaudible over the other noise in my fish room.

Tkeracer, is this a pump that will work? Or are there better options out there. Cole Parmer Masterflex 7554-80 Pump with 7518-60 easyload head

That pump head is excellent.

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with that drive. Maybe someone else could chime in. It is a 7-200rpm drive which would work fine for the application and the head would mount to it. I am not sure of the noise output it has since it's using the 1/20hp motor setup. I've never heard it but suspect it would be fine.

Awesome!

biecacka, I would ask the seller if it sounds like a coffee grinder or if it sounds smooth when it runs. Sometimes the brushed units squeak and that can be a problem for some.

It works fine, he upgraded to brushless unit. He said it's as quiet as it is going to be, meaning that it makes some "normal" noise I guess??

How do I figure out approximately how much flow per minute I would get from a 20rpm pump with the 17 tubing?
