Hi everyone, just bought my first crocea clam. Upon inspection of it when I got home, I found a pyramid snail on it. I then took the clam in a bucket of water, and with a toothbrush scrubbed the clam until there were no snails left. At least that I could see. What are the chances I missed a snail, and which fish do I buy to eat the snails? Coris wrasse or 6 line? Here is my new clam...

Looks like a maxima too me but.......The thing to watch for now is eggs that my have been layed on the clam. If you don't see any now just keep an eye on it. Your quick prevention prolly saved you alot of hastle cause the snails would have gotten in your tank and started to reproduce and then you would have a little bigger headache on your hands but just keep an eye out for them.

Well, I don't know how any eggs could survive unless they are inside the clam because I scrubbed for about 10 minutes!!!!

Thanks for the tip on the 6 line, are they aggressive?

what is it ?

what is it ?

This is my clam it was / is a crocea or is it ? How do you tell them apart ?

Yep, Maxima.

I would try taking him out after lights out (maybe a few hours after) and checking in and around all the scutes and byssal opening. Do this for several nights....there may be others lurking in the tank.

maximas usually have longer scutes than a crocea, croceas normally have the scutes broken off from their habit of boring into rocks and coral heads. croceas also have a wider inhalant siphon.

same here, I think i have those in my tank . I have search for all Ids and never seen what i have . they look like small pymids. les than 1/4 inch and tan in color. Anyone have a photo
