ojonas JBJ 28g build thread

Hmm maybe that's why... I put it at the very top from the first day I got it, and it looks like it bleached. But the clam (a crocea) is right next to it and it looks awesome. So maybe I should move it down a bit and see if that helps? Thanks Ojonas! :D

The new FTS looks fantastic, very colorful.

I am looking for a skimmer for my JBJ. So the one you are using is a HOB?

Which compartment is it draining into please?

I will go back and see if there is an image of it on the tank.

TIA

I am using the AquaMAXX HOB-1 skimmer which works great on the JBJ NC 28G. I have the intake in the chamber to the left of the middle one and the exit is happening in the chamber to the far left (standing in front of the tank looking at it). I think I have some pictures further back showing this setup.

Treated myself today with a gift. Ordered a new 100mm macro lens for my DSLR today. Should arrive tomorrow so then I hope to be able to take better close-ups of my corals.

Stay tuned for improved (hopefully) pictures.

Here are the first pictures taken with the new macro lens. Still have a lot to learn when it comes to how to use it and to get the best pictures. These are the few that turned out OK today. Enjoy!

Long time, no update.

Been very busy with work trips etc. so have not had as much time to spend on the tank as usual. That being said, the tank is doing great. My awesome wife have been a very good replacement for me while I have been gone.

Took a couple of new pictures yesterday that I will upload tonight.

This week is pivotal for the tank. We are putting in wood floors this coming weekend and because of that the tank need to be moved to a different room. Will have a buddy helping me and I hope for minimal losses although I have calculated with a few items not making it. The big move will happen tomorrow so please cross all your fingers for me.

A positive side effect with the tank move and wood floor installation is that my wife have agreed that I can do a tank upgrade instead of putting the nano back at its original location. Have already started to plan out the upgrade to a 125g at a different location. Hope to be able to start the new tank later on this spring.

Here is some conceptual sketches for how I would like it.

I know how you feel. The reason I started with the cube was to be able to "dip my toes" in the saltwater world without having to spend a whole lot of money up front. Now, since I am addicted to this hobby (thanks to the cube and this forum) I am planning to do a major upgrade to a 125g tank. Quickly grew out of the cube.

The tank move is done!

Went much better than I could ever have expected. Had a buddy over to help me and in less than one hour the tank was up and running at its new location. We just simply drained most of the water and then lifted tank and stand with everything into the new room and then put the water back in again. Have been 6h since the move now and everything looks just like normal. Dodged a bullet there.

Now the planning for the tank upgrade can start.

Will probably be a new build thread over either at the general discussion or, more likely, in the SPS forum.

Either way I will post a link in this thread when I get started. Probably won't happen for yet a couple of months or so. Unofficially I would like to have water and start the new cycle sometime in May.

Update time again. Not much have happened with the tank. The floor is done and the tank is "stuck" in the office until the upgrade will happen. Kind of like it though since now I can sit by the computer and see the tank at the same time. Win-win almost.

Lost my Yasha Haze goby shortly after the tank move. He got chased into the MP10 by my dottyback (grr). Will not have a dottyback in the new tank. He is going back to the store when that is happening. Cool fish but limits too much in what kind of fish I can have. Since I really like the smaller fish, mainly gobys the dottyback severely limits my choices.

Earlier this week I found an awesome wrasse, a Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse, at my LFS. The impulse buying nerve in me won and I bought it. I should know better. 2 days later the wrasse was dead and completely removed from the tank thanks for my clean up crew. At least they are doing a great job cleaning up dead stuff. Little bummed by this but my LFS wanted to compensate me with a new fish even though I told them it probably was me and my tank and not them. Good store!

Here are some pictures taken earlier this week.

First out is the late Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse.

My blue SPS (unknown name). Still looks awesome and have kept its blue coloration very good. Slow grower though.

Here are the latest FTS and for the first time ever a shot showing off the right hand side of the tank that has been up against a wall before.

Thought is would be fun to compile a couple of FTS over the span of the life of version 2.0 of the tank. Interesting in how it has evolved over the months.

Just went through all 13 Pages... Awesome tank sorry about that bad luck the first time around. Nice turn around though! Keep the pictures coming! I have this same tank on order planning similar ideas.
