ojonas JBJ 28g build thread

I dig the placement also, definitely the best idea.

Tips for photog real fast, though I dont know what kind of phone you have. Try setting the white balance to "daylight" if adjustable, it plays with LED's better. And try reducing the exposure to -1.5 to -2ev and I think they will come out looking much better and representative of how the tank looks in person. HTH :)

So I went to my LFT today to order a small RBTA and came home with a what I think is a Crocea Clam. Got it for $40 which I am happy with.

I also took 2 new FTS to show the current state of the tank. My birdsnest is growing like weed. My Pavona Coral has also started to show signs of new growth which I am happy about.

Definitely a crocea, looks nice! They like to be on rock though, they are known as "boring clams" because they excrete stuff to break down the rock and bore into it.

Thanks.

Got my reactor today, How much phosban do you put into the reactor?

I use about 1/3 cup, but you may want to start a little slow because it can shock your system and mess with your corals.

BTW, having a link in your sig is against RC rules, they are going to get onto you for it... :)

ojonas, sorry for the threadjack!!! I'll shut up now, promise!!

Thanks Ojonas for all your input and help with the reactor. Ange once again thank you too.

I setup the reactor exactly like you did. I put Rowaphos 1/3 cup (75ml) into the reactor.

Here is a pic.

Jackooze: Nice setup. How has it been working for you, seen any improvements?

Have been slow on updating here but been on a business trip all last week. Last weekend I went to one of my LFS and saw the most perfect RBTA. Could not resist the urge to get it (always wanted an anemone) and for the price I paid I could not give it up, $45. It looks very good in my tank and has hardly moved at all since I put it in. Crossing my fingers that my clowns soon will host in it. Also contemplating adding one or two Sexy shrimp that can dance around the RTBA.

I have also added a Sunset monti frag and a new bright red zoa. It was a part of a cluster on a frag plug but buying the whole plug would have ended up around $250 so I asked if they could frag 2 heads which they did. Will give it a few days to recover and hopefully it will take off. Never seen a zoa that brightly solid red.

Will add some pictures of the new additions later today.

I have also noticed that some of my SPS have started to encrust....finally. Take that as a good sign. My ORA Hyacinth birdsnest is growing like crazy as well. One of my emerald crabs have decided to make it its home and the coral does not seem to bother, still full PE.

The setup has been working good but I feel like there is not enough flow going through the reactor. I am considering on adding another reactor (carbon)by adding a small pump in the skimmer inlet chamber and connecting the two reactors to it.

Hope you have better luck then me with your clown fish hosting the rbta. I have my rbta for one month now with no luck. My clown fish seem to like hosting the corner of the tank.

Thought I would add some new pictures of the tank. Played around with the camera and got some decent pictures.

First off my new RBTA that seems to have found its new home right where I wanted him.

My new Zoa mini frags. These should be solid bright red when they grow up.

No one that can identify the "ball" in the picture above?

Has been some time since my last update. In short, this is what has happened.

  1. The RBTA seem to have settled in one of the crevises on the main rock exactly where I wanted him. Success!!
  2. Added more dry rock in the back of the tank
  3. The Crocea finally attached itself to a small piece of rubble so I could glue it to a rock.
  4. Glues the Crocea to one of the new rocks high up in the tank.
  5. Moved the Aussie Acro to a better more secure location on the new rock.
  6. Added two Sexy Shrimps that immideatly started to worship the RBTA.
  7. Trimed away one of the Xenia heads. Got too big too fast.
  8. Found and removed one of my mega bristle worms. Have at lease one more of these mega monsters in my tank.
  9. Bought two polyps of Nightmare Cousins Zoanthids for $20 per head just to find out that they went missing a couple of days later. Either they were never attached good or something ate them. :(

Had a minor skimmer issue when I added the new dry rock. I carefully rinsed them well before adding them to the tank but somehow the skimmer decided to go nuts and it filled up the cup in 10 seconds constantly. When I emptied the cup the skimmer itself overflew big time. This went on until I had emptied out almost one gallon from the cup. Has been good and back to normal since them.

As soon as the daylights come on today I will add some net pictures.

Here are the picture update I promised. Like the new scape with the rock in the back right corner. The clam has got a nice central position and so has the RBTA. I has settled down exactly where I wanted him. Success!!
