Jonathan, if you look up any thread I've posted to in the past four or five years, the pictures are still linked to those posts. My site is currently 1.4 gigs of images and data, and I'm allowed 10gigs of space.

Unless your images are very large, and they really shouldn't be, you should have plenty of space with most providers. When you save images, you should have the resized to 640 x 480 and hopefully "Save For Web" (a photoshop option) to reduce the total bytes. Most images I post are between 60k and 180k, which is nice for those that are viewing them. When you have to wait forever to download 4 pictures that add up to 2 megs (2,048,000 bytes), the problem is that the pictures were not made web-friendly.

If you need a provider reference gimme a PM. I pay 6.95 a month for 200 gigs of space and tons of options and services. In fact melev is the one who referred them to me:D

OK guys, thanks for the tips. I will find out what my ISP is actually giving me. Most of my pics are between 15 and 30kb so maybe it isn't such a big deal for them, but posting videos is a whole different issue.

Marc, you discussed images, but are your videos hosted in that 1.4 gigs?

I know I ran out of room about a month ago and they had to up my space, but I don't know to what level. I always resize, sometimes crop, etc. and save smaller pics to my web space, but there are hundreds of photos on two different web sites already.

It's more the videos I am concerned about and that's why I used youtube...

I seem to have 338 megs worth of videos on my site. Many are small, but a few are a bigger download including the biggest at 67 megs. I save them as .wmv files rather than the huge .avi files my camera records.

OK. I'll check that out. Mine are imported from my camera into Adobe, but I am sure I could save them and reopen them with movie maker. I think you mentioned that before, but I had such a hard time with it I had forgotten abou it.

Yep. Once they are on your harddrive, just use Import Video in Movie Maker, the do what you like. There are many features, including transitions, credits, titles, effects, and you can add sound if you like. Then when you save, I prefer to save ("to computer") and pick the best setting. That usually results in a bigger file, but you can see everything at least. It still is maybe 25% of what the AVI was.

If you can play the music on your computer, you can import it into the editor. If it needs some type of verification (like iTunes or Yahoo Unlimited), it may not work.

Of course, you can rip a song from any CD you have.

Some people say I am a little hard on my equipment.....

This Vortech has not stalled:

Yes that is coraline growing like there's no tomorrow...and this unit was directly below a 1000W MH lamp. Those are columbellid sp. stuck in the shroud. They are just the right shape to get stuck, and this keeps the population down. :D

You really do. I'd clean those more often, especially since you have an extra. You could just do a rotating soak and clean system, always keeping them all in operation.

Hows the growth on the acrylic? Do you have to scrape often or do you wipe it down daily?

I have no idea, I can't see into my tank! Well, I try to keep the viewing pane and one side pane clean but when my back went out I couldn't get anything done for nearly three weeks. The coraline is so thick on the back and other side panel that it is peeling off in some spots, and snails are huddled under the peel.

So typically I have to scrape it down, regardless of how often I run a magnet on it. For quite some time I kept all panels completely clean, but I have to help out in our store now, so I just don't have the time.

Marc, you are right, I should clean them more often. I am going to start a bi-weekly rotation and see how that works.

And yes, it is a total PITA!!
