Hey Marc, I have a serious nuisance algae problem...only in my sump, and it's driving me nuts. Any ideas. I have lots of flow in there and I just can't seem to get rid og the...mostly HA and a little BA.

That's the reason I started with the sump in the first place. was tearing out the frag area because that's the only place it is bad and after I got my head under there it was too ugly and I decided to pull the whole thing apart.

If you have light in the sump area, algae may grow. You could put some snails in there. If it is growing in the refugium, don't worry about it. If it is anywhere else, scrape and siphon it out to keep it from spreading.

If you have a propagation section, maybe you can make some type of shield to keep the light from shining on other areas.

well, I thought I posted about th eclams...it's moslty the mantles but they are slightly closed too. At least it appears that way but I am not positive.

Split? Who keeps loading up this thread???

No fuge, just skimmer, propagation area and return. Grows mostly in the prop area and a little overflows into the return area.

How deep are they and how old are your lights?

Seems to be appropriate for you.

Pumps are all scrubbed and back together, just need to finish the skimmer area...should be done in about an hour. Hey...I might just get to bed early!

Anything new lately that you've done? My clams sometimes appear unhappy in a similar way, even when water parameters test fine. Have you had your hands in the tank lots?

they started looking bad at least 2 - 3 weeks ago. Haven't been doing much of anything in th etank during that time.

Clams are on the bottom and in the rock wrok, but I seriously doubt it's the lamps Barry.

Anything from the clam forum? I'm fresh out of ideas, sorry, up until recently I've only ever lost a clam to "natural causes", and after that it was all to the tank crash.

Dammit this thread split before I got to lay crap on Barry. What an opening and nobody took it

I'll look around a bit more in the local forums and see if I can find anything they may help with the clams Jonathon, but to date only the fireworms is all I've seen, outside the normal problems, such as light and water parameters.

DUH...Aussie man...if you hit the quote button it will bring it to here. Have at it!

I noticed tonight, since I can partially see through the glass now, that the clams are not closing up after lights out like they normally do.

When the lights come on tomorrow, pass your hand between the clam and the light and see if you get a reaction.

Another split...geesh...ya'll gotta quit talkin so much... ;)

Watchin the clam issue for personal education...just got a baby T Maxima about a month ago and I just want to know what to do it this ever happens to me...good luck J...

do a fresh water dip for 15 minutes, examine for tiny snails and remove them, may have to repeat this a few times over the next week or two

hehehehe...sometimes they don't survive the dip but I will be assessing that today. The hard part is that they are deep and mounted, so I have a really hard time trying to extract them.
