OK! Enough chat...Starting a 1000g+ Reef

I had a neighbor in LA who's job was to determine flight paths for planes at LAX. She was on-call most of the time and would do some sort of flight planning via laptop from wherever she was.

So here's a really bright woman who is in the business of direction finding, and she would get lost on her way home all the time. It was strange to say the least.

no, i mean if you are worry about your camera will drop in your tank ect... then i think underwater camera is not a bad option. at least you don't need a photo box and you can take picture as close as you can.

yeah i always lost my way home from work, is that bad?

Ditto..I ordered take out to avoid the dishes. heheh...Both of my hands have blisters from landscaping. Thats what she wanted...I have unpacked my MR4 skimmer and been too busy with honey to do list .hheheheh

Sherman you are a becket guy right? Do you think it is worth drilling the skimmer and adding 2 bulk heads to convert to a recirc model?

My phone is more expensive than my camera so I am sure that's what would go in first. THEN I would fall in during the retreival process..

I have recirc modded smaller beckett skimmers before and didn't notice an improvement in skimming. The MR4 is a beast though so it would probably work better. The MR4 calls for 750-1500 GPH feed rate. If you can gravity feed it then it's a good idea, otherwise I wouldn't do it.

I don't think he should mess with it at all until he has it running with a baseline anyway. Mods might take a different form for a beckett. Maybe drawing/pushing more air than recirculating. Damn thing is tall too, so you lose some of the dwell time advantage that recircs are for right?

One of the guys on the mrc club said it might work better with out the riser. I will give it a shot the standard way and go from the there. My plumbing will have union s so It will be no biggie to turn it to recirc model. Thanks for the info...

You have a great piece to work with there, so I have no doubt once you get familiar with it you can mod it to really kick butt. Lots of ways to get good skimmate!
