I've put carbon in my filter on the advice of others here but so far it's not doing anytying.
my tank looks awful! It's all cloudy. I can't even see the back of the tank. I change the water and it's back to looking like crap in less than a day =(

It's got a skimmer, about 25lbs or so of live rock, 1 inch sandbed, 2 pumps plus the skimmer and phosban reactor return for flow and a hang on refugium
i just put in the hang ref today b ut i've had cheato in the tank for about a month, It's doubled in size.

I dont understand this... please help me to make my water clear!

Could it be bad lights because my bulbs are really old but i've got new ones coming.

Try Algone, Chemi-clean, or Purigen. Carbon will usually help but if there's excess nutrients in the water these chemical agents/media will get it under control. The refugium will help in controlling these levels once they're in check.
Keep an eye on your skimmer, though, as these additives will often cause it to skim like crazy. It's a good crazy, though.
I've seen a tank of here that sounds like what you're describing. He used Algone and his skimmer was pulling out cup after cup of disgusting green/brown slimy skimmate. Afterwards, his tank was crystal clean.
If anyone can search the thread and post it that'd be great.

if that doesn't work i'll buy some purigen.

easy on the chemicals... usually they're just bandaids to the real problem.

You mentioned something like.... since I moved...?

Are you using Tap Water in your tank? Have you always used it? Does you new home have copper pipes?

Nope, RO/DI used to be tap but I switched it. and no we don't have copper pipes..thank goodness.

Is it a diatome problem? I had that problem a long time ago and I rented a filter from my LFS and it cleared my problems up perfectly. It was a fish only tank so I don't know if it will work in a reef tank. I'm sorry to be so general but it was a long time ago since it happened. Good luck!!

sorry i meant thin waste.. watery

no i dont think it's a diatome problem.. no brown stuff...

right now there is 1 occellaris, 1 orange (diamond) spot goby, 1 lubbock wrasse (sp)
There is a royal gramma missing.. haven't seen her since I put her in the tank a few days ago =(
might explain the ammonia spike but the water was cloudy before that.

So really i'm a t aloss.. should I get some hermits ? mabye that will help ?
oh an dI have a gsp frag... i want it to be a reef tank but i think i better solve this first.

Try the Algone tonight; see how it looks this time tomorrow. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The Algone is in packet-form, correct?
