OK here's the sump

Looks good.

Question - where are you getting your starphire tank? Is it starphire on 3 sides only or all 4 sides of the tank? Last Question, where are you getting your tank and can I ask how much?

Sorry for the questions.

Sorry for the questions.

I bought the tank from someone on RC, I mainly bought the tank for the stand and canopy the starfire came with a broken bottom and a broken back glass. It's 3 sided starfire.

I didn't plan on using the tank due to the amount of labor that I had to put into repairing the glass but the devil in me couldn't resist but shell out a few hundred bucks on the 2 pcs of glass needed to repair the tank.

Last night Elite and I ripped out the 2 broken panels so we can start rebuilding it. The panels was ordered this morning. I'll take some pictures of the progress.....

Looks like a nice set-up. Where are you actually placing that skimmer? Does it go in front? If so, why not make the sump bigger and place the skimmer inside?

The only suggestion I would make is to place the outlet of the skimmer into the frag tank. That will reduce the flow in the 'refug' and allow you to add a random current to the frag section. I am assuming you are going to float cheato in the algea section and keep it BB so you can vacume out settled poo. Add a horizontal piece of acrylic just under the water line of the baffle that drains into that section. This will cause the cheato to roll in that section. If that doesn't make sence, I'll try to take a pic of my sump to show you. If grows better this way.

Putting skimmer return into frag tank isn't a bad idea, this would add flow I think the SPS will be happier too.

I have cheato and grapes that I'm putting into the fuge, I may split the fuge into 2 again with egg crates smaller section for grapes since they're slower grower. This way they won't mix together.

Some pictures of the baffle you're talking about would be great. I kinda pictured it, but not quite. :D

I can send you the sketchup file so you can edit it if you like.

I may even not put LR rubble into the frag section and put a small amount directly into the chamber of the drain, use some eggrates and pvc pipes and just rest the frags on there instead. I can probably lay the frags out in a more uniform way to fit more.

The skimmer is sitting outside right in front of the tank. I'm trying to avoid any pump inside my sump and display. My tank runs a few degrees cooler since i went external.

Here, it was faster to draw it

I drill a few holes in mine as I will put frags in there sometimes.
Place it a inch or 2 under the water level.

ok, so we got the concept straight. What's the purpose of letting the cheato roll into place again? :D Any benefits of it doing this?

Sorry kinda slow today. :D

This is how it grows in the wild, kinda like a tumble weed. When it rolls, it gets light all the way around it. This causes it to grow faster, denser. It also keeps stuff from settling inside it somewhat.

That makes sense now because mine doesn't seem to grow even. The top layer is always dead. Consider it done. :)

Not sure about the sump, but for the tank, for sure I won't be able to do it myself. I can probably handle the sump myself. I've beeing layout my plumbing all morning on Sketchup. Pretty soon I'll be good enough to quite my full time job and do graphic designs for a living at this rate. :eek2:

The sump is easy to build because we already have the tank. LMK when you want me to drill the hole for the sump. Lets drill it first before buying the glass for the baffles.

I do my tank layout in my head dude.. No need for fancy software :D ..

Here try to do this layout in your head.... lol :eek2: I still have 6 more pipes that I need to figure out where to run them.

If I decide to slap the seaswirl in the middle, then I'd have 5 pipes to worry about. :crazy1:

Hate to break your heart, but I guarantee your plumbing will be totally different when you build it. When you actually atart seeing the size of things like fittings and bulkheads, you will change your design. You might as well go for it and just make a quick sketch.

But playing with sketch-up is fun.

I think it's just my excuse to play with sketchup. LOL
