Ok...I have been wondering...what to do with my 125 gal

Looks terrific. Love the rockwork. I like the mless crowded look. That will be great for flow and will provide lots of swimming room for the fishies.

I'll get some pictures tonight...all the rock is in place and the initila diatom bloom is done...I really need to get more flow in there!

Still waiting on my Hydor's...sheesh you would think they were coming from China!

Here are a few updated pics...and the Blue Jaw is doing well Ryan.

Lookingt sweet. I don't see any corraline algae. is that all base rock. If so I would get at least a few pieces of quality fijii or other rock or GARF Grunge to seed the tank. Or you could siphon coralline scrapings from the sides of someones tank. I have plenty if you need.

I would take some Jerry. It is not all base rock...there is about 80 to 100 lbs of base (lace rock) and 40 of live rock. The live rock is Marshall Island from Blue Zoo, but it was in their filtration tanks for 2 years. It is well cured, but didn't get any light for that time, so I need to get some corraline going. Maybe some purple-up?

you need some coraline int the tank for purple up to work. if you do deside to use purple up they sell it cheep...only 16.50 i think...at pet smart. other places you'll pay 20+.

Dont buy the purple up. Waste of money. Like Jerry said, get some scrapings of coraline from someones tank. Id be glad to give you some if you need as well. Im glad the Trigger is doing good.

i wouldnt say it is a waste of money, worked in my tank. And it will work better in his tank since he isnt doseing anything.

Why pay for something you can get for free. You dont need to dose calcium to grow coreline. You just need the algea to start with. There is plenty of it in all our tanks he is welcome to. Regular water changes will provide plenty of calcium to grow it.

You say it worked in your tank. What makes you think the purple up had anything to do with your corline growth?

oh i didnt say not to get it form you guys. you need some to be able to grow from. i and some others believe that it is the iodine that helps the coralin grown faster when it is more readily avaible. well in my tank before i had started to use the purple up i have a very small amount of coralin growth, barly growing on the glass. after a week or two of use i started to see the glass being covered more more at an almost expedental rate. I had done nothing to the system during this besides normal dosing. i had stoped doseing and after a week i could see the coralin growing as much or as fast. I also did a test when the back glass was fully covered. i scraped a patch away and let it grow back, it took more than 3 weeks to grow back. so the second time i took the same scrap off and used purple up from that day foward until it was totally covered. it only took about a week and half to two weeks...this was proof enough for me to use it on my new 7 gallon nano and the rock seems to be starting to cover nicely...this is my experiance. i had also found out about this stuff from jerry when he was using it in the zoo tank, im not sure what is thought were about it, maybe he will post as well.

Coraline growth seems to be a fluctuating thing. Sometimes your tank is perfect for it and sometimes not so perfect. Temp,ph,alkcalc. All play a part. I cant say it doesnt help at all but Ive never needed it and mine grows to fast. To be honest Im not sure why one would want ti to grow at all. It saps your calcium, closes up the small pores in your live rock making it less porus for bacteria. It looks ok but it isnt any better for the tank with it and may even be detrimental to some degree. But If you want to pay $20 a bottle them go for it. I dont need it that bad. Also if you believe its the iodine then why not just test and dose iodine instead of purple up? Iodine isnt that much and a bottle will last serval times longer. I dose iodine from time to time and do believe that it is important. My shrimp shead almost imedietly after I dose.

i like the look of it and i have almost enough live rock in my sump to sustain the display with bacteria, but i also think that it doesnt cover as many nooks and cranies as you think. yes i agree that there are many variables that are a determining factor. As i said i like the look of the purple over the rock and if the rock isnt purple this colors it up much faster. I dont does just iodine because in the purple up there is also very fine araganite. with the iodine in the aragonite mixture bonded to it, the aragnite makes it heavy so it inturn falls out of suspention, onto the walls, powerheads and rocks in the aquarium that have some coraline on them. this directing the dosing of the iodine to specsifically on the rocks and walls.

That's a funny looking "fish only" :)

LOL...yes it is...hmmm...

I think the problem is you people (STRS)...you just don't want anyone to go without corals :)

Thanks everyone that has helped populate the tank!

Vince,
Right now it is just the Trigger and a LMB. I am planning on getting a diamond Goby from ABC this Friday. I really like it simple though...that fish loves all the attention on her! I like watching the Urchin do its thing...I plan on getting my shrimp back too (it is still housed in my friends tank). I think the Trigger will be ok with it...I know I saw a few in Ryan's tank...

Man...I have had to glue everything down though...those snails and the urchin knock everything over!!

I am so much happier with this set up than with what I had before...make it much more enjoyable!

Thanks again all!

looking very nice Frank. Yea I never saw the trigger eat any of my shrimp. I did see it stare at one with a hungry look on its lips tho.
Cleaner shrimp are ok but I do think he'd eat most any other kind if he got the chance.
