Ok lots of us have been using bio pellets for a while, let's talk results

My reef SPS dom tank was started 4/2010
Went thru new tank syndrome with Algea hair, Cyano, dinoflags, Byrmo etc..,
I didnt use GFO or GAC
Phosphates were steady at 0.16, never ck'd for nitrates
Started NP bio pellet use 8/2010
No Blooms, Algea hair disappeared
Phosphates dropped to 0.01 after 3 weeks
added additional NPX bio pellets 10/2010 after 40% of the NP pellets were depleted
I now use filter socks and dual side by side skimmers
I started feeding heavier and more frequently
Phosohates fluncts btwn 0.01-0.03ppm
Ck'd nitrates = zero (Salifert)
With my ULNS system my pellets remain stable at around 1300ml depleting very very slow

Just my experience.....

I was using them for about 4 months didnt find them any good and they smell bad i stoped using them 6 months ago and went zeo and never looked back

Well mine have been off line for 2 weeks now. All sighns of cyano and the brown bloom on the substrait are gone. Corals still look great as they always did even before the pellets. po4 is still 0.00 on my hanna and no3 is still 0 on api. So as far as i'm concerened the pellets were doing me no good what so ever and were actualy causing some problems.

I've been running Seaslug Phosballs for about two months now and took the gfo off line. I really never saw a big difference with either one. I plan on running them for few more months to see what they do long term.

I figured I would update my experience with the WM Eco Bak pellets. First and foremost, almost a total depletion of any/all hair algaes in the tank. In addition, the red slime is very minimal. My coral coloration is amazing and growth has been consistent. Undetectable readings of PO4 and nitrates. Skimmer is pulling out dark brown, almost black, skimmate. One of the key changes has been the replacement of MB7 with Zeobac supplementation. I also have been doing weekly 30-40 gallon water changes. Still running GFO and GAC. I will be looking to decrease the GFO in the coming weeks, so I hope the nuisance algaes do not return. I give the WM Eco BAk thumbs up for right now.

Here's a quick update after pulling Bio pellets 3 weeks ago.

NO CYANO OR HAIR ALGAE:uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi:

In the last 3 weeks I've done the following

40 gallon worth of water changes
New Gfo
Dose zeobak/zeozym/coral snow for 1 week, and then once a week afterwards
Siphon out red slime
Lights out for 2 days with covered tank

I was doing all this with the red slime as well and could not beat it.

The most recent change as of a week was I replaced my Sfiligoi XR6 400 for a ATI Power module 10 bulber:celeb1: what an awesome light

So with the BP I was getting good growth and the colour was just ok but again I've never really achieved great colour yet. I had 0 po4 and no3. After 1 week of pulling the BP my PO4 jumped to .05 and some sps were showing a bit of stress. But I'm happy I got rid of the red slime.

I do plan on using the BP again, But very little in combo with gfo if I have a hard time keeping my P04 down.

Well I've had great success with NPBP, over a period of 1 year, spanning two different tanks. Great growth, coloration, non-measurable NO3/PO4 (I used Rowa on top of NPBP), and no cyano.

I'm using about 300-400mL of Gen 1 and Gen 2 NPBP now, if you want to see more about my tank, here is my thread:

How many GPH are you pushing through the pellets? I noticed recently when I upped the flow by just a slight increase, I had a large cyano outbreak. I am currrently using a mag 3 dialed back to around 150GPH.

I'm using the smallest reactor from BM (Mini-70 I think it's called) and the pump it's using is 300-400L/h so about 100g/h?

I have been using NP bio pellets for over a year now. The pellets started tumbling back in december 2009. My phosphates were always zero and my nitrates prior to using the pellets hovered around 8.

Two weeks after running the pellets my nitrates dropped to 4. I had not changed anything else.

Two more weeks past and my nitrates dropped to zero.

Prior to using Bio Pellets I had a refugium with chaeto but I took that off line when I started using bio pellets. I started out with pellets in a two little fishes 150, then upgraded to a vertex UF-15,

then to the UF-20, and then in December of 2010 I added a second UF-20 and daisy chained them together.

Ya, I am running a lot of pellets, LOL, but I do love them as they have worked out well for me (I think)... :)

Tank specs and notes:
* 150g + 131g plumbed together (single sump), SPS dominant with clams and LPS, heavy(ish) bio load.
* I did take my GFO offline when I started using biopellets but I noticed my phosphates rising slightly so I put them back on line and continue to use GFO with the bio pellets.
* Bubble magus 220CS Skimmer
* GFO and Carbon
* Additives: Just Baking Soda (for alk), Calcium. No other additives.
* Weekly 10% water change.
