For a reef I think painted black... the coraline algae looks good on black =D

No worries but, I think it is mostly personal preference.

I sponge painted mine black, so it has some texture and looks neat!

Mine is frosted, I scrape the algae off all glass, I prefer the minimalist, modern clean look.

I painted it black. Hides the equipment/pumps better as they blend into the background.

I painted mine dark blue....love it....reminds me of a deep ocean

Just prefer black. Blue reminds me more of holding tanks / LFS.

Black. The overflows and equipment blends in and isn't as obvious

I have black. I'm thinking of scraping it off, because it reflects better and makes the tank look infinite. (Wedge tank).

Reef is black cling background. I like it a lot and it is easily replaceable.
FOWLR is painted blue. A bit more prep and more care to avoid scratching it.
Very Happy with both.
