ok now im progressing with my 210 and need better lights

ok well so far i have 120 pounds of sand,100 pounds of live rock,A couple corals(in the 55 i sold to my boss)getting a little giant pump for my return, and now im in need of lights im looking for some 96 watt p/c lights as i sold hilides i had(they was something electricaly wrong with them ?)im looking for some more p/c's ballast, bulbs and reflector's.
so far ive spent
$400-tank,stand,wetdry,skimmer,and lights
$200-100lbs sand,100lbs live rock,1 tang,1clown,and this blue fish
and some corals(this was a hell of a deal)
$12-20lbs of sand
$50-little giant pump
so its $662
so now i need a coupple 96 watt lights

dude, even 4 96 watt bulbs wont be enough for a 210 if your planning on keeping corals.

what kinda of tank are you looking at keeping?

i run 4 x 96pc on a 210. its OK astheticaly (any change in water clarity is highly noticable), but i would prefer much greater intensity. with a 210g as a reef tank, i wouldnt choose anything less then 3 x 250w metal halide, if you wanted to do it right.

i say use the money you saved to buy some premium lights.

just my opinion
have fun

hey steve and kogo i was planning on 4 96's and 4 vho 110 so thats 824 and maybe a couple moonlights idk what do you guys think. Will that be good or not ? so i would have about 4 watts per gallon.

the problem comes from the depth of the tank. the pc and vho's just dont have the punch to reach the bottom and grow coral.

also from an economic standpoint, your looking at about $683 in initial cost for those lights at www.hellolights.com and $213 every 6 - 8 months in new bulbs to maintain intensity... so in 2 years youve spent $1322

for $600 at the same sight you can get 3x 250w hqi mh on an electronic ballast with 14kbulbs, and bulb replacement once a year would be 197.85 for hamilton 14k bulbs... so in two years youve spent 797.95.

so for you, metal halide would be better and cheaper!
