Ok Ok Who bought the multibar pair from LA?

Jacob, let me know when you add them to the dt. I would love to check em out. Maybe have a beer or two also. :D

@Ryan
Thanks. I'm hoping things go as well for me as they have apparently gone for you. I don't have an acclimation container... I've been thinking about making a batch of them actually. The only other angels I have are watanabe's and I don't think they or the other fish will bother give them any trouble. Will be adding them at lights out as I usually do for all fish.

@Trey
I have been trying to sneak some Hikari into the mix but they won't touch it! They will eat the smaller pieces of PE for whatever reason... it's very aggravating to be outsmarted by fish! On the bright side PE has about 6x the protein of Hikari so even if they eat 1/6th the amount they still get the same nutrition.

@Mandragen
LOL, a few people have mentioned that now. The thread is about multibar angels (P. multifasciatus), and so far the ones that are coming from Live Aquaria / DD. The thread title does mention multibar but I guess not everyone knows that slang :)

@Bryan
Roger that. Probably after x-mas but before new years. Beer x2 sounds good. I remember once upon a time you were thinking about trying the venustus and I said if you had success with them that I would give the multibars a try... well I guess I didn't have the patience to wait for ya :D

I'm already lining up the next residents of my QT. So I'm looking forward to getting these two into my DT real soon...

Well, I have room for some more Centropyge angels NOW! YEAH.
Now, just got to beat this people who can hit their PC keyboard in picoseconds!

Matthew

Cool, yeah not familiar with the angels. At first I thought it was some sort of clown and was like whaaaaa?!?! lol.

Hi all, thought I'd share my experience with my Paracentropyge Multifasciata. I got mine from Age of Aquariums in LB and it was from a direct shipment from Vanuatu, they had him in QT for a week and I was lucky enough to get him. I didn't put him in QT or any kind of treatment for fear that he would not make it as he was not eating, so he went straight into my DT, and fortunately as soon as he went in he started picking at the rocks and within 3 days he was eating live black worms and mysid shrimp soaked in garlic but nothing else. It's been about a month now and he is doing well with the exception of a black spot that developed on the side of his (or her) body, it's not an open sore or any type of open wound and does not appear to be getting any bigger so I'm hoping that it's nothing malignant. BTW I found an LFS that has 2 of them for the incredible price $45.00 each, I'm considering buying one and attempting to have them pair up but I know that the chances of that happening are slim, please let me know if any you have experience with that.

Here's a pic of my pair.

Jacob D, thats quite a beautiful pair you've got there.

I really love this species, but I'm a little discouraged in purchasing as I have already lost 2 in the past. IME, they are very fragile and delicate fish. The first one I lost due to Tang harrassament...which led to stress...then starvation...then Ich and eventually death! The second I had did not acclimate very well to the DT and only lasted 4 days before getting sucked by my Tunze powerhead. Both were QT'd and did fine, but suffered when I transferred to the DT.

Do you keep any aggressive Tangs or Angels in the same tank as your Multibars? Were they introduced before or after? Any suggestions as to how you successfully acclimated them and kept them healthy thus far? Special food blends?

:thumbsup:

I had wanted to try these fish for so long, as I have always loved centropyges, the the aurantia's being one of my favorite followed by the multifasciatus... but after actually keeping them I think the multibar has moved into the #1 spot. They are all the beauty and much more social than the golden angels. I have a soft spot for flame angels as well; the striking red color is hard to not notice.

Alas, these are the only centropyges I have currently and I don't have any other aggressive fish. The only tang is a juvenile P. hepatus and it isn't very bossy (yet, fingers crossed). I have an Achilles in QT which I'm hoping won't be aggressive towards anyone. Honestly the biggest issue I have so far are my anthias. I have a large-ish group (22) of N. carberryi. At feeding time they are a force to be reckoned with. I have had to strategize on how to get the angels fed since introducing them to the DT. My current approach involves distracting the anthias on one end of the tank with some live black worms, then feeding the angels on the other end of the tank with Hikari mysis (which they now eat readily). This works ok but I have had to keep the anthias at bay with a hand swat here and there until the angels have had their fill. It's a little nuts but working for now!

One thing that I have noticed is the two angels have seemed to go their separate ways recently and are rarely together or near each other.

Here's one more / he's doing great and will soon have a mate.

Denash, that's a beauty. When you say that he will soon have a mate, do you mean that you have found him a small female, or just that you have a second fish coming?

Thank you, yeah I found him a smaller female the LFS has it in quarantine and it'll stay there for about 2 weeks just to make sure it doesn't show signs of illness / my best guess is that this is a male and hopefully they'll pair up. I'm considering catching this one and then sticking the both in the refugium for a day that way they will both go into the DT at the same time.

Question for those of you with pairs: Does adding a smaller female tend to prompt the larger fish into a growth spurt?

Sad news, my Multibar Angel had been happy healthy and eating its normal meals which consists of live blood worms, mysis, or cyclopeeze which are rotated to provide the fish with a variety. I also feed nori for the tangs, which I've never seen the angel eat directly from the clip but the tangs make a mess so he probably ate from the stuff that's floating around, I also feed spectrum pellets. So on Monday I fed my fish at around 9:00 AM and I don't remember if the multibar was out eating with the rest of the fish or not but at about 3:00 PM my wife called me to let me know that the multibar looked bloated and was swimming tilted to one side and with his head pointing downward. When I got home it was obvious that something was wrong and his belly area was bloated but he was still trying to swim around. On Tuesday I left the lights off for most of the day so as to give the multibar a chance to recover without the normal activity of the other fish swimming around to stress him out, but unfortunately this morning I found him floating on the surface of the water barely alive and even more bloated than he had been the day before. To prevent any further misery I pulled him out of the water, this was my all time favorite fish and it's extremely baffling and frustrating to have him go from perfectly healthy to bloated overnight. I added a Goldflake angel last week but they were getting along nicely the only other thing I can think of is that Sunday I did a water change and I used a powerhead to stir up the stuff that settles on the L/R other than that it's been a normal routine. Anyway all other fish are all doing well with no signs of any health issues but I'm bummed over my Multibar.
