I know its a bad day to ask questions being saturday and all..

But why is my nem twisting off its tenicles???? Ive found 4 this week. one being tonight.
Now, anyone thats seen my nem knows its tenicles are insanely long. It looks like a condy sometimes

well this week its been twisting and twisting until they fall off. Id love to blame it on a preditor, but ive seem the twisting then that same tenicle laying on the sand.

then on top of that, it grows a new one, that actually bubbles.

anyone had this happen? any theroys? (sp)

heres a pic from a few weeks ago. id take a fresh one, but its pooping right now lol

my frogspawn does this sometimes maybee it has something to do with a sexual reproductuion or its a defense mechanism for nearby corals???
just my thoughts im no skientist

I have heard of clownfish pulling the nems tentacles off, especially the more agressive ones. But you say you see the tentacles themselves twist off. I don't know what to think really, never heard or read of that happening before.

Maggie,

Do you have any photos of the twisting tenticles or the remaining ones? ... that might be nice(helpful, not enoyable) to see.

Do you think this is another manifestation of you previous post/ anemone stress?

corey

PS. do you have any shrimp in your tank?

boyooso..

Im not sure if it has anything to do with my previous post. I ended up moving the rock it was on so its foot wasent trapped and its been at 100% ever since.

Ill take some pics now. I was thinking maybe the flow in its 'new' spot is twisting them.. it moved about a half inch. but its been really happy ever since it did.
It ate a silverslide 2 days ago, pooped lastnight, as normal. and has resumeing its normal nightly behavior.

the ones it twisted off have sprouted new ones that actually bubble up too. even stranger.

If you'll notice in the pics, Near the bottom of its mouth there is 2 nubs, and 2 tiny Bubble tip tenicles. These are the 4 that were twisted off.

any guesses or insights appreciated :) Im not worried about my nem I think its doing well but this is a lil unexplainable

Oh. yes, i have 1 blood shrimp and 1 rather large peppermint shrimp. the blood shrimp lives extreamly close to the nem, but this is happening during the day and i see the twisting.
I dont have a pic of a twisted tenicle.. If it happens again ill shoot one

That is very wierd. I've never heard of anything like that. Can you find any correlations as to when it happens? Feeding time, lights just on, or does it seem to just randomly happen?

about mid day. havent seen it in the early day and havent seen it at night. different tenicles no certain spots.

na, nothing new. not for about a month. this has only been going on about a week. Ive looked into all the ovious variables, and i cant come up with a reason. frustrating lol
