ok what is this demon worm?

organism

code monkey
This one crawled out to eat some dead pods when I was treating with Interceptor to get rid of some predatory pods. It's about 3-3.5" long and swims faster than my clownfish like baby bristleworms do... When I first tried to catch it it took off so I just siphoned it out the next time it came out. It has legs under the tentacles, and the legs shoot fireworm spines in and out like a switchblade when it gets poked. *** is this thing?

Video of it swimming like crazy in this mug, it started off playing dead at the bottom.

It could be a fire worm but I'm not sure. Member Cloak will see this thread and he will certainly have an answer for you. But bottom line is KILL IT :hammer:

This is a fireworm. Whatever it is, it isn't that. It's not a eunicid, either. That covers the two harmful species I know about.

Nereimyra sp.?

Got anything from off the coast of Florida?

I did actually, I got some Gorgonians and zoanthids from a farm down there a few months back, great find!

It really looks like Nereimyra punctata, seems like they eat pods and detritus?

Yeah when I first guessed I found a distribution map showing that species off the Atlantic coast of Europe in deep water and figured nope.

I found another which showed records off of Florida and up to NC so who knows.

It is an interesting looking demon though.
