OK, which of you guys thought you could house sharks...

What a horrible article. He loves animals, but has no problem with the sharks eating his puffers. Also, the article makes it seem like is not only possible, but ok to raise sharks and then try to get an aquarium to take them. Grrr.
 
Yeah, that guy is for lack of a better term... retarded. I mean seriously you had a "9 ton tank" you just throw two sharks in not thinking they'll eat anything? I feel sorry about the pets at animal shelters too but I don't go out adopting them all.
 
And that is why some stores dont carry ANY sharks. People have no idea what they are getting into when they purchase animals like that!!!!

The puffer fish are not the only ones to fall victim to the sharks, Dwyer reported.

"We had a nice display of some angels, a couple of raffs and about 40 damsels. When the sharks were entered in the tank about a month ago, they're all gone," Valentine said.

Actually, I think the "fault" lies squarely in "The Dentist" who originally "ordered" these sharks. I mean, black tip reef sharks don't just show up in the Bay Area! It's not like they were taking a vacation and someone mugged them or something, and they have no money to go home!

I "think" I know who those sharks were sold by because I was at SFO when two huge boxes came in for a local wholesaler and they had BTRS's in them.

The problem really is that most people have no idea of how to properly care for these animals. 9 times out of 10 the enclosure is too small or the water conditions are not proper. Leopard sharks and horned sharks come to mind.

Some people have the un-ending desire to keep animals that are "evil" or "aggressive". You know the Super Lifted Truck Syndrome, overcompensation, little man complex. The dentist and this other guy are no different then the person with a 55 gallon tank filled with 12 inch Oscars and Managuense only feeding them goldfish. I see it every day and it breaks my heart that these people are slowly killing fish just because they feel that it is cool.

A shame!!!

i think its also important to note that the 2 BTRS are not the firsts, he raised a shark previous to these two and donated it.

For better or for worse is hard to tell. Perhaps he has experience in keeping sharks or maybe the first shark turned out to be a failed attempt ending up as a donation to a public aquarium.

But i think its safe to say that not everyone has the resource, money, space, time to be devoted to these animals which makes me quite skeptical of the man's knowledge of the animals.

I hope he donates them to a public aquarium quick. These sharks eat better than most people in the country. I doubt the man has that kind of money to feed it high priced salmon and the sorts everyday.

I think the dentist could have done better if he had donated the sharks to a public aquarium and cut out the middle man.
