okay to add anemone later?

I am about to add 2 clownfish to my newly cycled tank as my first inhabitants. I was wondering if I would be able to add a host anemone for them later, or will they not host unless the anemone is in first?

Oh, and what is PE Mysis Shrimp? Is that Protein Enhanced, or is it a brand name? Are Ocean Nutrition Mysis Shrimp okay?

Thanks for the help.

im assuming your tank is a 90g? if so yes depending on your lighting setup. it is advisable to give your tank time to age before adding an anemone 6-12 months is a good time frame. if your water quality is in pristine condition after that period and corals, etc. have done well and grown and your confident with your reef husbandry skills you can give it a go. :)

PE is an abbreviation for the brand name. They are actually a freshwater species of mysis and are quite a bit larger that the standard mysis. I tried them once. For me, it wasn't worth the trouble of finding who carried them in the first place. They were also too big for some of my smaller fish. I use the Hikari brand of mysis myself, mostly because it is easy to deal with and the fish and anemones like it. Most of the other brands of mysis are good too.

go slow adding livestock...

clowns will host.. dont worry about that..

Okay, so you are saying that my clowns will host an anemone even after 6-12 months without one?

By the way, I have T5's with 2@10kK and 2@actinic in a 90 gallon with sump.

When the anemone is added doesn't seem to affect clownfish hosting. You'll want to research compatible species of anemones and clownfish to get them to host together. There are many cases where clownfish will host with anemones that they would not naturally run into in the wild, but to get the greatest chance of them hosting you'll want to look into compatible anemones / clownfish.
