Olasana Lagoon: High Energy SPS Nano Build Thread

Woah. Lot of injured pride here, mainly from people who are upset their way of doing something isn't being acknowledged as the only way of doing something. People take the interweb far too seriously sometimes (and their own experience).

Galleon's been generous to a fault about my DSB driven LPS and softies dominated tank, even through many hiccups and problems, SPS fanboy ( ;) ) though he is. Now I feel myself heading in his direction, going bare bottom and buying my first SPS. Again, all he's offering me is advice and humility about his own very considerable experience.

Why do I say this? Just to point out that those who think he's being dismissive of their opinion need to lighten up a bit. He's doing it his way, telling us about the bumps along the road included, and has the experience and confidence to carry along that road without needing others' validation. Galleon's the sort of guy who is patient and engaging when you don't patronize him. ;)

Looking forward to more progress being charted in this thread, rather than self-appointed experts coming in to loudly proclaim that it's all going to go horribly wrong. :)

Thanks Tom, here's some "starting point" photos so I can document recovery and growth.

Are you planning on adding any more coral? I like the simplicity of your design and the videos are very well put together, much better than pics.

I don't know what I love more.
Your tank or the drama it creates..? :D

Sorry to read about the kalk OD. That's never a good thing. Thanks for posting your results. Even if was not the best. Always like to learn what not to do from others experiences. I think I would have paniced too if it were me, and probably would have done the same thing.

The green water shot is really impressive actually. Wow.:eek1:
Instant larvae rearing tank.

How did your Damsel, that you snuck in there on us, fair through this ordeal?

What did you change to make sure this kalk problem doesn't happen again?

From those recent shots your coral actually look pretty damn good considering. They're gonna recover just fine.

Your thread is like an overnight sensation. Hands down the most entertaining one I've ever read here. I'm hooked. Can't wait to see the rest. Subscribed.
All in just three months, 17 pages, 18,000+ views, and it's a 20g tank. Ha! Who would of thought. Is that some kind of record? You should get some kind of award.
Thread of the year.

Thanks for keeping it real.

Reef on!

hey Galleon, looks pretty good, considering...
a little bit of bleaching and tissue recession, but also some recovering polyp extension and the clam looks great as well.
did you outright loose anything or did most of the pieces weather the storm?
I'm very interested to watch the recovery.
will you change your regimen at all or stick with kw and water changes?
i forget, are you using any additives?

I lost one colony and 2 frags completely. Everything else there is a piece of at least that remains.

No additives, and yep, kalk and water changes. I no longer allow the slurry/settled kalk in the top off reservoir.

Me too! That's why I wrote about it.

Haha, damsel was added after.

No more settled/slurry kalk in the ATO reservoir.

Thanks! I hope so!!!
