old FW QT HOB filter

I have a HOB filter I used for my FW QT tank a couple of years ago. It was brand new when I bought it then. It's been sitting in storage for a while now.

I'm in the process of setting up a QT for my 75g DT. Can I use my HOB filter that I used for FW?

If so, how do I prepare it/clean it so that it's ready to use for SW QT?

a mixture of water and white vinegar should take care of any stubborn deposits.

I always have used Hangons for small to medium setups, they work well for me.
