AMAZING tank for being less than 5 months old......!! Can't believe how at home all those corals are!!

Well done - must be the water in Canada
Thanks Ed. I've certainly had some issues in the past 5 months but I am hoping I've turned the corner on them now. Oh yes and I think I can say with confidence that Canada has the best water in the world.;)

Are you using Randy's 2 part?
What was your decision for not going with Calc reactor?

Thanks

Kevin
Yes I dose Randy's 2 part and I've done it that way for years. If it ain't broke don't fix it.;)

What kind of Angel fish is this in the bottom left of the picture Greg? Or is it a butterfly of some sort?

Thanks

It is a meredithi angel from Australia. Sorry I don't remember the full name and proper spelling.

"fraggle rock"

"fraggle rock"

Curious?????
Do most of you grow your frags out before putting them in the display or just put them into play right away? I do a mix of both. Here is an example of a mix of colonies and frags together. Once they grow in it I think they should develop a good contrast of colours & shapes. Sorry I shot through the glass without a tripod so it's a bit out of focus.:o

I grow them in the display. You have a knack for placement though, which is great. I wish I could do what you do.

I am in the process of automating and ordered one of these today as a matter of fact.

Great unit OldDude (i have the same one) ... i guess you have a GHL controller as i beleive this is NOT the stand alone doser.

I currently run Ca, Alk and Mg and was running Kalk through the fourth but stopped.

Easy to set up.

Thanks for the compliment Marc. I'm sure your placement is just fine.:)

I am getting the controller as well. I thought about the stand alone unit but decided to go with a controller because it has so many options and who knows what I may want add in another year or two. That is also why I went with the 4x doser, less limitations.

invasive coraline algae

invasive coraline algae

I have developed some variety of coraline algae that is quite invasive and attacks/grows on some of my less aggressive acros. I lost a whole colony of hoeksemai to it. It started from the bottom up and out grew and literally swallowed the coral. Here is what it looks like, (I have since cut it off - learned my lesson) on the branch tip of this blue stag (lower left corner). You can see how it spreads, grows very fast and overgrows the coral. Anyone else experience this?

I grow them in the main display. I have recently started to grow out an ORA blue Turaki and a Ponpe birds nest out of my main display and will try to place them in a good space once I get them big enough.

That aggressive coraline is really interesting. So does it grow over live coral tissue or just rapidly grow and smother.

I believe it just grows faster than the coral and smothers. Either way it still kills the live tissue and takes over. The wierd thing is I've only seen it on acros that are not aggressive but never seen it on montiporas or birdnest for example. You can see on that same acro where another more aggressive acro had grown into it and started growing off the same branch.

Greg,
This one is an acropora suhasonoi correct? I must have looked at this one a hundred times, beautiful piece! Beautiful tank too!

hey Greg, I think this one is A. multiacuta. It is frequently mislabelled as A. suharsonai. Suhs have pointy axial corallites, to the point where if you touch them you can pierce your flesh.

Nice call Vlad, I think you are correct. Thanks.:)

YEAH!!! no more manual dosing. I just got my controller & dosing units in today. Now just have to figure out how to use them.

Finally getting around to skinning the tank area with paneling. Excuse me ultra-messy garage. I've been staining, etc getting things ready. It's been a slow process to begi with but today it's so bloody cold & wet it's talking way longer to dry. I think it might snow!! :mad2:
