Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

my adult emperor (10") has not touched my SPS and was a model citizen with regards to LPS until I introduced an elegance, he ate that and wet his appetite for other LPS that had been there for some time, which I had to remove. I have an auto feeder with Spectrum pellets 4 x daily which helps I think, I believe it's hit or miss with many fish and can change overnight as did with mine

Yes it's interesting how a fish can change into a jerk almost overnight after being well behaved for years. I've had similar experiences.

Here's a wierd urchin I've had for years that resides in my 130 gal softy tank (don't want it bulldozing my sps over). I believe they call them "pencil urchins" but don't know if that is correct. Here's two different angles of it from the side and top views. Sorry the picture quality is lacking and one with & one with out the flash. Anyone else have one of these things?

Hi Greg , yeah i have a very similar one to that pencil urchin i removed it to a sump tank though as i have heard it can be quite carnivorous in it's diet , although i never saw it ever eating any corals have you had any issues with it harming any desirable life in your aquarium?

It will eat some coraline algae (which I don't mind) but I've never seen it eat anything that would bother me. I think they mostly just eat algae & such. I just don't keep mine in my main display tank because it tends to knock stuff over like frags that aren't encrusted to their rock, etc.

I have 2 pencil urchins in my 180 gallon with no problems at all. They only eat different algae's, they do not eat corals. lol
Thanks for the extra input Moses. I agree, I believe they are an algae eater.

Ok I snapped a few shots, please excuse the mess I've been pretty busy.
I just used another bucket to elevate my skimmer.

I finally got around to finishing the flooring of the fish room with anti fatigue foam matting and I love how comfortable it is.

Here is what I am using for the holding tanks for dosing Randy's 2 part. I had a couple of old aquariums kicking around I put to use, 10 gal ca, 15 gal alk & 5 gal bucket for mag. Nothing fancy and perhaps even a little on the ghetto side but it works well.;). For coverings I found some scrap acrylic pieces for on the ca tank and I used some glass I had hanging around from an old project that I just cut down in length to fit the alk tank.

This birdnest seems to be one the emperor's favorite coral snacks. You can see the damage it's been doing to the polyps.

Greg I pop into your thread every day to look at you fantastic results, I just don't post a lot any more because I'm so busy at work and home.

If you ever get tired of the crappy TekLights and want to replace them there are more and more quality T5 fixtures coming out all the time now!

Keep the pics coming.

James
james could you tell me the name of a good T5 fixture.

I recently had a few pix taken by a pro, thanks Josh.

Although likely too "plain jane" for some of you folks I've always liked the contrast of this blue tip stag.

Greg, Your tank is simply amazing and man you’ve got photo skillz! How do you deal with the corals growing together? Do you let nature take its course or do you trim? Do you still add frags to the tank? If so, how do you find a spot where they’ll get light? Fantastic job on the tank, I love mature SPS dominated tanks and you have one of the best.
