Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

DanW - I vote for the red one Greg. Its beautiful now and will be a stunner when it gets bigger for sure. I'm consistently amazed on how dense and colorful your SPS are, very impressive.
Thanks Dan. It will be a sweet piece when it grows up. It is much brighter than the picture shows.
mpoletti -I like "high expectations" corals
Don't we all.:spin1:
prop-frags -+1

That raspberry is just gorgeous! Know the species?
Yes it is A.hyacinthus. I personally cut that frag from the mother colony after it arrived to the LFS from Australia. They actual colony was in rough shape but the frag is doing great.

Greg, i have just finished reading your thread and must admit i'm extremely impressed, not only by your reefkeeping and photography skills, but by your modest and low key demeanor. You've given me new motivation and inspiration! Pete.

Hey Pete thanks for the great compliments & for spending some time on my thread. I think you can see I enjoy this hobby and if I am able to help motivate or inspire someone then it makes it all the more worthwhile. Thank you for telling me that, you made my day.

Well it's taking a long time but this coral is finally getting some colour back since I pulled it out of the shade. It gets a cool green with blight blue polyps.

Greg I have been following your thread for a while here on RC. I will have to come see it sometime. I was unable to make the frag swap but maybe next time. I read about the "issues" going on and im glad I passed up on that cheap stuff and continued with my normal KZ brand. I feel bad for the other reefers who are using it but still don't know the product is faulty.

My Cube is stuffed but next fall I am planning a 57g rimless to stuff full of SPS frags. Kind of a "grow out" project...you know the 10 year ones =p

Things seem to be on the mend since I pulled the carbon and did 200 gallons in water changes last week. The frag meet was pretty busy and crowded so it was hard to get a good view of the tank most of the time. I was pretty much pinned down at my frag tank for most of the night as well so didn't get as much socializing done as I would have liked but frag sales were good.;) Anyway if you want to swing by sometime just let me know a little ahead of time so I can confirm I'm around since I travel with work quite a bit.

Old dude,
I've been following your thread and I remember seeing you having some problems with Vortex. If you had it to do all over again, would you do the Vortex or the Tunze? I'm re-doing my reef and upgrading from 75 gallon to 150 gallon reef and upgrading the power head system as well and trying to decide between the Tunze and the Vortex systems. I understand you've had some problems with your Vortex, and was wondering what you recommend.

It's true I have had some issues with the vortechs however their warranty has been very good and the replacement service through the LFS (Red Coral Aquariums) has been excellent. In my opinion they out perform the Tunze and are far less bulky with no internal cords so I actually plan to eventually remove my tunzes and go all vortech in my display tank but I just keep choking on the price of them. Hopefully that answers your question.

I'm kind of diggin' what this piece is doing but I just can't capture the "metalic green" hues with a camera very well.

Try adjusting "hue" setting in PS or other similar edit software.
It should be increased a few points to bring out the green.
The lower amount, more reds etc, some "saturation" adjustment can help.

Be sparing with these adjustments.

Tom Barr

I lost this starfish a few months back, too bad I quite liked that thing. Here is one of my all time favorite pictures of it although it was taken almost two years ago in my old system.
