Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

Western_reefer - Is that a gorgonian to the right? What kind of gorgonian is it? Very nice powder brown tang BTW. How do you keep your sand so clean?
Thanks Moses I am quite happy with the new PB. Yes that is a species of photosynthetic gorgonian. If memory serves I think it's a Rumphella sp.
I keep the sand sparkling clean with a pair of these gobies.

Gregg,

That Deswalli is amazing, love the coloration on that piece you left a link too! Hope the new piece colors back up the same for you....

I've always wanted to get one... One of these days I'm gonna have to make it happen!

Maybe Polletti's got some for me, lol! (hint, hint...)

Thanks Dave, yes I recommend you get one, it will nicely top off your already awesome sps collection.

I have the same in my tank (might have come from the same parent colony Greg's came from if we trace back far enough). I think it's a Rumphella sp.

Thanks Tony, you are likely correct with everything you just said. Thanks for the confirmation.

Awesome! I also have the same goby. Keeps my sand very clean as well. :-) I think I might get another one, but a small one so they can pair up.

Do these gobies have the ability to change sex? The previous poster said he'd buy a small one so they pair up and I was curious how they pair up. They also do a fantastic job of keeping my sand clean as well. I will never have another tank without a diamond goby!

I am not sure. I initially bought 3 hoping I'd get a pair out them and these two got together and the other was shunned to the dark reaches of the back of the tank and eventually I stopped seeing it so I assume it didn't make it. Long story short I don't know if they change sexes like some fish do. I also heard a rumor somewhere that these fish mate for life in the wild so I'm assuming they don't change:confused: but who knows?

Moses can you tell us what the deal is with these guys?

Ive heard that your best bet in pairing them is getting a very small one and a very large one and hope they will pair. Not sure if its guarantee they will pair.

 That is one species I haven't tried in awhile since the jocs though the large polyps were a little too inviting. The other one was my one of my personal favorites, the og tubs horrida.

Greg what size sand do you have? I didn't know that gobies would sift through the larger grain sand, good to know if I ever switch out. My sand is sugar sized and when I had gobies they would cause the water to become cloudy. Are you able to keep nassarius snails?

I use a fairly course aggregate from Caribsea and the gobies munch it like there's no tomorrow. I had some of those snails but the hermits are in their shells now so I guess something killed them but I think possesion is 9/10 of the law.:hammer:

You've seen my sand/gravel and my nassarius' do fine.

Thanks fellas, I've got some serious thinking to do...

Here's my new piece of A.desalwi that was just cut from the same original mother colony that the old one came from. It's pretty sweet already but I'm anxious to see if I can get it coloured up the way the previous one did. I have it chillin' in the frag tank for the time being until I figure out just the right spot for it to call home in the display. And for comparison here is a link to a picture of the old one.
