Olympus Stylus in-tank use?

Hi All,

I'm trying to sell my old Nikon d70s on Ebay, and the money is already starting to burn a hole in my pocket(grin).

I have a D300 and I'm looking for a smaller, "grab-and-go" type camera. One that caught my eye are the Olympus stylus models that are waterproof to 33 feet. Has anyone used one of these for "in tank" shots? For example, top-down photography by putting the camera in the tank. Any comments? Are there other waterproof models out there? Not Sealife or others with big cases, but cameras themselves that are waterproof....

Thanks,

Jay

I know there are a few Olympus that are waterproof and at work we just got the new Fuji Z30 or Z33 that is waterproof, can't remember which one is. I have no experience using one of these in a tank, but I wouldn't see any problems doing it, but I would wash it off in freshwater after each use.

I have thought of using one of these for my tank, but I went with a dslr since I wanted to get more into photography.

I have one Olympus 770SW, I don't like the shutter speed or the autofocus....it is possible to get some halfway decient pics and for a "get it wet" type......not bad for a point in shoot.....

It is what it is, and takes fair top down pictures, and you can get close.....but I am still learning with it so don't take my results too much as what is possible. I found by fire suppression, I could get a good shot out of 5 or 6 due to slow shutter IMO. A lot of the grain was when I zoomed and cropped in the editing software that comes with it.

(Its a joke of mine BTW that I am horrible....so don't worry I know)

dots,

Thanks for the images. Pretty good depth of field in most of them. I wonder if the ISO is on auto and the flash is turned off, if the grain is from the ISO being boosted too high?

Can this camera be operated in manual mode, where you set the ISO, shutter and f-stop?

I was looking at one of their 10 mp models, but that probably won't make much of a real difference.

Well, I still have time to think about it because my d70 on Ebay hasn't met its reserve yet(grin).

Update,

Well I sold my D70s for more than I thought I would, and Pentax had an instant rebate on the Optio w60, so I bought one for $209 (and I still have enough left over to buy a Sigma macro lens for my D300!)

I took a couple of shots with it in some tanks. Here is my fourth shot:
