Upgrading my system from a 150g display to a 300g. Previously ran an OM 4 way. Have discovered that the motor is shot and need a new one. So I was thinking going the sea swirl route instead. Which ones do the reefers at large like better? Just curious.

I have a pair of seaswirls on my tank return. they work well and are dead silent. they do a great job of changing directions.

the advantage of hte OM is that you dont have to mount a large piece of eqpt in the hood. the Seaswirls must be on top of the tank to do anything for you. the OM can be put inline under the tank.

I had 2 sea swirls on my 67G and loved it except 1 thing. They turn really slow. Other than that like pickupman66 said it's dead silent and moves water well. I wonder why wavy sea got discontinued..

I used an OM 4 way powered by a Hammerhead on my old 125 for a year and have mixed feelings. If you use oolite or any fine grain sand I can't recommend it. Mine would get wedged up with particulates all the time and I would have to break it down at least twice a month. All in all I was satisfied with it, but I don't know that I would build with one again. I have no experience with the Swirl.

I've got a 240 DT and have 2 swirls on the return and run a closed loop with the OM. I love the random flow that I get running both.

Sea swirl gets my vote. Another device similar to the sea swirl is the Vertex MOcean. This is what I use. With this unit, you can control the travel along with the speed.

My exact situation. ^^^

I have an OM Squirt on my OR 6500 return. Works like a charm, I don't have any issues with it getting clogged since the water coming into it is the cleanest in the tank. Used to have a SCWD, that lasted about a day before I decided to upgrade to the Squirt. I don't have any experience with the Sea Swirl - I passed on them because I (like pickupman66 said) didn't want to have that equipment above the tank.

I currently use OM, and can't say I would recommend it.
if it breaks, I'm just going to use it as a really expensive 4 way splitter with all ports constantly on. when I was waiting for my replacement motor, I removed the drum and just let it go full flow on all 4 ports and it seems fine and no sand blowing around. it was out of warranty so I haf to pay for it. I think OM is a two person operation (husband and wife maybe?), and for an item with no price listed, the price I got quoted was different depending on whom I talked to. not a good way to do business imho.
