Omega Sea Salt Causing "Scum Slick"?

I picked up a bag of Omega Sea Premium Marine salt the other day, since the store was out of IO Reef Crystals. Never used it before. Bought a brand new bucket from home depot, washed it out thoroughly. Gave the mixing powerhead a real long bath in vinegar (full strength) to get rid of deposits that had built up on it.

What do I find? The surface of the batch of saltwater I mixed up has film all over it, and there was a small pile -- maybe half a thimble worth -- of brownish granular material (almost like fine sand) in the bottom of the bucket. I'm wondering whether the salt is to blame, or whether full strength on the vinegar degraded the powerhead plastic.

Anyone who's used this salt had similar experience with it? I may just toss it out and not use it if this is what can be expected. (I've already gotten another bag of IORC.)

Vinager did nothing to the plastic. That's from your salt.

I've been using omega sea reef salt for three years now and I haven't noticed a film build up at all.

Any chance some crud got 'rinsed out' in the bucket from the powerhead after the vinegar soaking?? I would guess that the dirt in question was dirt from the cleaning of the powerhead. Also 'Tarawa' although it is the same brand, Kengar said they purchased the marine mix formula, not reef formula.

Is it possible that the salt was from old stock? I'm not sure if age on salt has anything to do with this but I got a box of salt(I'm going to leave the brand out)from a friend that was a couple of years old. After mixing it up the water was cloudy and there was a clay colored sediment at the bottom of my mix bucket, had the same results after trying it a couple of times, I didn't put it in my tank. I was told the box of salt was a couple year old and when he was using it, while his tanks were running, it mixed up clear. And I've use the omega sea salt before and it's always mixed up clear.

Many people stopped using Reef Crystals because of the 'scum slick' that it leaves on mixing buckets!
