wow, what a sad story about these fish; I hope some of them survive. To be honest, these angels are pretty, but there are a lot of other fish I see on DD everyday that are a lot prettier, and legal to purchase 
At least the Clarion Angel is a REAL beauty, at least IMO, which would demand the expeditions out to catch these fish.

There appearance may be boring to some but to angelfish nuts like myself they are one of the holy grails of this family. I personally think they are amazing looking fish especially when they are younger. It would be an beautiful contrast of colors if you could house one of these, a clarion and a queen in the same tank.

Kiyoshi Endoh's book Angel Fish Of The World page 109 under Holacanthus limbaughi :
"...The most colorful period is juveniles that are essentially a blue variant of H.passer".....

Haven't we had enough speculation and gossip yet? It makes me shake my head that we have 7 pages of posts on a subject that only a select few actually have any facts. There have been so many strawmen constructed on this thread I am afraid if someone lights a match we will all go up in flames.

Scientific names are mandatory by State Ag and F/W. I have had many shipments get held up because of 1 fish not being listed in scientific forms... although, over the past 4 years i have gotten on the "good side" of F/W, my broker, and recently Customs and State Ag, that even if something is out of place, they release the shipment anyway. Usually things happen and get held up when a fish is obviously illegal here (lions eels etc)
Im assuming that someone knew what that fish was and obviously knew it was not H. Passer, which is an automatic red flag.
But like was posted on a few different occasions, no one really knows what happened except a few, until the facts beak, it is all speculation

In addition to the process I outlined for DTW above, all I have to do for Ohio Dept. of Ag. is apply for a permit to acquire "Misc. tropical and marine fish" from a particular source, and once approved, there is no more interaction with them required.

HI State Ag is just that. CA state ag doesn't get involved on MO fish imports. Like Jay said, HI is going to be the strictest of all states in regards to MO imports.
Your broker should always be on your good side, that's what you pay them for :lol: If they aren't, drop them like a needled anthias!!
IME people who <font size="3" color="#0000FF">profanity removed</font> scientific names are those who obtain them illegally (ie without permit) they then try to pass them off as another similar species to avoid condemnation, as the real species will give away their actual location of harvest.
Kinda like a guy here who poached joculators from Christmas Island.
He then tried to pass them off as bicolours. When he was sprung, they realised that the jocs can only be found on Christmas and cocos island, and nowhere else. He did not have a permit to collect, so therefore he was guilty on two counts. One for poaching, one for lying on an official document.
Anyway, he is now $20 000 poorer, lost his boat and fishing licence, and spent 6 months cooling his heels in a prison.
Not a good result.
