OMG, I can't believe what I just ordered . .

thats a good idea miracles, you wouldn't want to start missing the shimmer of MH and all the other benefits (high $$$ of operation) of it. i've actually got my first MH lights this month, so i am going to see what all the fuss about the $$$ difference is going to be. I think if its 20$ more a month, is totally worth it in this hobby. again, congrats for being the 1st to jump into the LED in the area.

The Solaris light is pretty cool, but the look is different than the MH.

Kim,

I am very curious, can you describe how the light looks different? Is it just the shimmer, is it the color, or brightness?

Sherie,
It is all that you said. To get the most amount of light you need to set it to 20K, so it is real purple. It is not as bright as the MH. There is a shimmer with the LEDS. I am starting to get use to it. My anemone (RBTA) was not too happy at first but seems to be expanding more. The other SPS are looking the same, but I am keeping a close eye on them.

I guess the biggest change is the color and the brightness. I haven't been able to get them hang hang level, and so there is not as much light going to the back of the tank. I think when I get that figured out I will like them more.

So far so good!

Okay, okay, I finally got off my butt and took some pics! I have really adjusted to this light and my corals have also. The SPS are all doing well after over 2 weeks. A couple spots on 2 of my milli's got a bit brown, but appear to be coloring back up. The left side of the tank is the solaris and the right side is t5s. The t5s are just actinic in the pics.

Sweet! :) Hows the light spread on it? Any difference you see in depth penetration? And last, was it a dark brown or light brown on the milli? :D Thanks for the update.

Hey Justin,

The spread is pretty narrow, not quite straight down. But it does make a huge difference on glass algae. Hardly any on the LED side and lots on the t5 side. I wish I had enough money to buy another 4 feet! The brown is a darkish brown. Still very much alive and polyps extending. The corals at the bottom are still doing well, seeming to get enough light and this tank is 30" deep.

Oh, BTW, if anyone is interested in checking out the lights I will be around this weekend and everyone is welcome for just a small entrance fee :) jk

Im sorry I missed some of your posts, it sounds as if it's more intense if it made things react like that. Im curious as to why the highest setting is 20k? Is it because it dims blue/purple colored ones to creat the 10k temp?
Is that paired against 2 T5 bulbs? If so that's still impressive! It doesnt take many T5's to pretty much outshine anything (visually doug, visually ;) ) Really evidences how bright those lil LED's are!

One day... Our canopies will look like Lite-Brite's (probably speeking greek to the 20 and under crowd :p)turned on it's side with touch sensor LCD control panel display . And we'll be able to just pop in and out what we need and what we dont, & 'set it and forget it!' Amazing stuff, I love it.

Back to the brown topic, definately sounds like much more intense lighting hit it!

I was just thinking that myself, about thats the only part your probably having to get use to, is the fact you want the otherside to be matching the solaris!hehhe. You like to torcher yourself hunh?hahah.
I like it, and the color looks great!

Im glad your keeping SPS.....looking to hear the long term effects of color, and growth.....
