Hey Tim, told ya so!!!! Don't forget they took out my signature and it took me emailing 3 mods to find out why. BTW, I had the sig for over 3 months before the removed it, just because Tony Blair refered to Jesus Christo as one of the two that have laid their life down for the British peeps.

This has nothing to do with SCMAS, it is between Reef Central and its members. We only use space on Reef Central to communicate with fellow reef enthusiasts and SCMAS members. Hopefully we will soon have our own web site and then we will have more than one outlet for discussion.

I'd like to point out that we don't actively look for avatars or signatures. There's 150,000 members on here, we don't have the time nor desire to be "avatar police". But when another member reports something to us, we act on it.

So saying you've had this or that for x months and it just got pulled simply means that it was never noticed by the Moderators. Kind of like telling the police officer "sir, I speed down this street everyday, why did you give me a ticket today?"

Sorry, but if your complaint is that people are "too soft" and we're coddling them....You're wrong.

This is a family friendly board...we have people of all ages on here. Our rule is simple...if you don't want your kid seeing it/doing it/saying it, then it's not appropriate for this board. There are plenty of other wild-west type of fish forums out there where people can go for that type of open environment....it's not here though.

It's not the avatar it's the principal. At what point does someone stand up and say "your being overly sensitive?" If there was a minor out cry about something thats one thing but when it's ONE person out of 150,000 people, who is over reacting?


What if I PMed the mods saying that my Christian values were totaly offended by your Satanic Chimp? Or I take offence to Beerguy and the implecation in his name that he is an alcoholic and as such shouldn't be a Moderator?
Obviously I would be the one with the problem, but at which point does someone say "your being overly sensitive" instead of Kow Towing to every minor gripe.

Ok dc I'm not attacking you hear, just trying to find out where the mods stand. If a member were to complain about the devil horns on your avatar as offensive because of religous purposes would you change it?

Personally I don't care weather or not they are there, that's what makes me easy to get along with.

I'm not a moderator.

I'm also not an alcoholic. I used to brew beer, on a competitive level, and my friends started calling me 'beerguy' years ago. In real life I'm fairly conservative 40-something who is vehemently against drunk driving. When I do drink it's done in moderation and only then if I already have a designated driver. See - you just never know.

Trust me. We don't respond to every minor gripe. The avatar in question simply isn't appropriate for the atmosphere that we try to maintain here. This is a reef keeping forum; it'd be nice if we could get back to that now.

wow drop it already, avatars are a priv not a right. They could disable them all together if it really came down to it.

That avatar was not fitting for these forums, that is the bottom line (no pun intended there). I was surprised it lasted as long as it did, and everyone told you so in the first place.

And before calling me uptight or something like that for saying this, you would be surprised to find out that my father is the owner of the First Amendment here in town, and I love seeing pictures like that, but I understand that it did not belong here. There is a place for everything, knowing where that place is, well that is very important. That is part of the reason a board like this has stayed around as long has it has, and why people like my father can keep a business like his going for 30 plus years.

What I find Ironic is that the only times we have had issues with the Mods removing stuff is after a situation here in the forum. My signature was removed after the whole tomnicane fiasaco and the response I got from the Mod I contacted was "someone must have complained". Now, Tim has his avatar removed because "someone allegedly complained" after the whole Butchdwag fiasco.

When folks draw attention to themselves and this forum things get noticed. Inappropriate is inappropriate. How long it stayed under the radar is really moot.

I'm not attacking the mods. Obviously, they were appointed to use their personal judgment, and it is a PRIVATE web site subject to the terms of the user agreement, but was it really that bad? I'm pretty conservative, but I didn't find it offensive.

I'm certainly against obscene, profane or other offensive content in the forum, but I'm not sure his avatar was unacceptable (and it DID say "reef"). Besides, I don't think it qualifies as a thong if you have room to put a word on the back.

The swimsuit she was wearing is completely legal to wear in public anywhere in the US. Shoot, you see more than that at the supermarket on women's magazine covers in the checkout aisle, not to mention at every beach in the country.

I agree with Thurge and the rest.

I think it all need's to STOP it's over so let's all move on with life i got in trouble some time back over my store and i told the mod's sorry and thanks and it was OVER like that we know that some one complaind and we all know that it has to do with butch and I like butch but he never needed to say what he did and im sorry he did it put us all in HOT water but we will make it but at the same time we need to think of the KID'S we have on the forum to day i like to have my kid as you all know see what's going on with all you'r tanks and she love's you all to she like's comeing to the meeting with me and Kendra but if it was not a place for her to come i would not be a member. Thanks for leting her come with us so think of what she is seeing on the fourm as well...
