ON the Back

I have a thick brown mulm on the back of my tank that have I left there for the urchin and stars to eat but it is really getting thick. Any idea what this yulk is ?

Im trying to identify what it is so I know what to get. im thinking about 2 brittle stars

Can you give me a suggestion on dealing with it please? Where does grunge come from?
I was going to scrape it off and net it out before I measured params tonight.
Do I need more guys on the CUC?
