On the right track?

Hello Ya'll.
Just wanted to get some more input. I have a small rock with about 10 zoa's and around 20 green star polyps on it. The GSP are doing great, but the zoa's have been closed for about a week now. I thought it might have had to do with the light and moved them from the sand up on top of a rock about 4 inches higher. So far no change. Then I noticed a few copepods hanging around the zoa's. So I decided the tank needed a fish anyways so I got a scooter blenny to get the pods.

My question is am I on the right track?
Is there anything else I can try?
Or is it normal for these things to stay closed for awhile?

Here's some info on the tank;

Biocube 8
PH:8.4
Temp: 80
NH3: 0
Nitrate:0
Nitrite:0

Lights on for 11ish hours a day
18watt 10k
18watt actinic

any and all help is appreciated!

Give them a little time and they should open up for ya. Probably has something to do with water quality, on an 8G its really really tough to maintain great water quality.

11hrs are a bit long.. I usually see folks go for around 8hrs ave.

everything looks cool. what do you have for flow. Start the polyps at the bottom then gradually move them up a couple inches every other week. to light acclimate them.

I wouldn't let that GSP get a hold of your main rocks, they're very invasive growers. I'd keep them at the sand bed.

If the zoas and the GSP are on the same small rock, the GSP could easily be stinging and irritating the zoas, thus forcing them to stay closed. If you can, I would split the rock with a chizel to seperate the zoas and the GSP - and as Charles said, I would keep the GSP out on the sandbed away from your main rockwork as an island.

I had no idea the GSP would sting the zoa's they are rather close so I will attempt to break the rock. They are somewhat on their own side of the rock but I'll see what it does. Thanks for all of your help.
