Oncasso (Onyx-Picasso) Questions

There was some confusion earlier about where Picasso's came from. Here is a pic of the original pair. The female had allot of black, or "onyx" and the male was a wild caught fish with exceptional markings. I believe, this female died at some point and was replaced with another onyx.

To answer your question I would concider it to be a female after a few months of being alone just to be safe. You never want to take a chance on stuff like that when it can be avoided.

the clown is balrely an inch long.... he has more than a few months before it becomes female.....

generally with perc's its 14-18 months before they will reach sexual maturity. they are able to turn male earlier than they can become female so generally around the 16-18 months if kept alone or the dominant clown they will become female. some go by size but that can vary, if you feed 3 times a day you could have a 3" fish where as 1 time a day it may barely be 1.5".

Exactly!!!

And as stated above Onyx was coined by Bill Addison. He had wild caught clowns with lots of black and bred the best to get the best line of what he called "Onyx" clowns.
