one 6010 on a 180 ?

Rodge,

I am currently setting up a new 180 gal reef.(6x2x2)
I am trying to decide on whether one 6010 stream
would be enough? I plan to suppliment with (2) 1/2"
Seaswirls spaced on 1/3 along back of tank that I have from my current 120 gal.
My thought is that It would provide a lower current zone under
the Stream that I might put Clams, some LPS, and M Caps.
And put SPS thoughout the middle and opposite end from
the 6010 that would benifit from the full force of the unit.
Possibly even run an output on each corner of the SPS end
run from a SQWD.
It's this plan, or just get a Dual 6010 kit on a multi controller
for full tidal effect. My fear with this plan is losing the ability
to have some of the "lower" current livestock.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks for the time

The 6000 pump due to the wide output has less travel of the flow. My concern would be that the flow loses velocity dramatically at 4ft. If you are primarily interested in LPS two 6000 and a multicontroller would be fine in conjunction with your 2 Seaswirl units. I understand that you already have these units? If not consider the 3/4" models. The 6010 is simply a 6000 in kit form with a single controller so if you were to buy the multicontroller it would be money spent for a controller you would not use so buy the 6000's. The 6100 would be a great choice if used in tide mode on the multicontroller and you were keeping SPS primarily, on these units the flow will carry 7ft. On both units the flow rate is Electronically variable. As low as 800gph on the 6000 and 1400gph on the 6100. Again, due to the wide output flow does not carry very far- imagine how the water comes out of a standard 3/4" garden hose- now imagine how it would come out if you had the same flow and the hose was 2" in diameter. I think you can get an understanding from this anology.

Rodge,
Oops....
Actually I meant to say the 6110 NOT 6010.
Please cretique my plan. I plan on using the controler
as well. Or do you think TWO 6110 with the multicontroler
(sorry I forgot the kit name for that...tr24?) would do the
job on thier own and "bag" the whole thought of the seaswirls
altogether (I'll just try to sell them here). Again hoping thier
would be "lower" current friendliy zones below the streams.
Thanks again and sorry for the mistake.
Thanks

Rodge,
And SPS is going to be the primary stock. But I can forsee a few
LSP, defineitly clams.
Would those be ok at the ends of the 6' tank under the Streams
in a two 6110 configuration ?

You would want two 6100- same as a 6110 sans single controller which you would need as you will have the multicontroller. I would use your Seaswirls as they make a very nice random flow and compliment the Streams with higher pressure flow zones. I would use the 6100's mounted on either end with tide mode program on the multicontroller. This would have one side on- then a period you set between 1min and 12hrs before it switches to the other side. Each side would pulse while on between a low flow setting and a high flow setting you dial in so for 1-7 seconds you would have say 1400gph, then the pump would rev up to as high as 3200 gph for 1-7 seconds as you set it. This will create a natural wave pattern. Now with that in mind you will need to be patient, while Stream pumps are coming in in greater volumes we are still behind demand and the Multicontroller is undergoing some changes in the production process and have been out of stock for some time. We are switching all circuits to surface mount technology in order to up production and as well are instating a new secondary quality control check. Basically I would predict pump delivery within one month and hopefully multicontrollers within the same time frame. It is best to preorder with a vendor. I explain this repeatedly that Tunze is a small family owned company and most processes are still done by hand in house with a staff of 30 people. This limits production to about 250 pumps per week of all models combined and these pumps are distributed in nearly 50 countries so you can imagine the US alottment is fair but not enough to keep up with demand.
