One Armed Mantis

Gandy

Just curious if anyone has ever seen an injured mantis? My new N. Oerstedii came with his right claw sort of loose and dangling and he only strikes with the left. Does anyone know if he will regain his motion after molting or do I have a little one armed bandit?

He's Crazy!! You'll have to feed him some live little crabs so he is influenced to regenerate faster!

The animal will probably tear off its raptorial appendage before it molts. It will take three molts before the appendage is 75% normal size and functional. That will take probably 6-9 months. A smashing stomatopod with only one raptorial appendage feeds normally on snails and hermits since they often use a single appendage. It will be a bit weaker attacking crabs since they usually strike with both appendages at once.
