i think we can solve almost all the planets problems if most people just stop having kids! you can trace most world problems back to the over population of humans, the planet just wasn't meant to house six and a half billion people! I suppose I'm wrong after all its just biology for us to reproduce... but if there was half as many people than there is today i doubt overfishing would really be as big of a problem as it currently is.
There are reproduction control mechanisms in place already, and they WILL correct the overpopulation issue eventually. They're famine, disease, and war. It's a little Four (3?) Horsemanish, but true nonetheless. Another, and more palatable option is economic development. Developed countries spontaneously reduce their birth rate, but they consume more, so maybe it's a wash as far as sustainability goes. But, if it is a wash, it's a much better situation because people aren't starving, etc. An overhaul of the "World" Bank and IMF would be an excellent start.Originally posted by Pea-brain
Biologically we have an instnct to spread our genes, but we need to control ourselves. If we can't in the future we may be faced with 2 options: Random euthanism, or government controlled reproducton licenses. Just a thought.

I'm sorry, but imitating China is the last thing we want to do. And, we don't have to go the way of the dinosaur, that's the great thing about being intelligent with opposable thumbs; we aren't entirely beholden to the whims of chance, we can make choices about how to lead our lives.Originally posted by Pea-brain
I was thinking a bit more along the lines of what china is doing-so many children to a couple, but those ways are fine too. I immagine eventually we have to join the 99.9% of organisms that have gone extinct since life first appeared on the planet.

If it isn't good to eat fish, then why do they taste so good?
You can certainly say we don't need meat, but I don't think there is any argument to be made that we aren't natural carnivores. We have the teeth and guts of omnivores. Our closest relatives are omnivores. As far back as we can trace our history we've been hunting animals.People aren't natural carnivores and therefore should not be preying on other animals,
