One Fish, Two Fish, Eat Fish…No Fish

i think we can solve almost all the planets problems if most people just stop having kids! you can trace most world problems back to the over population of humans, the planet just wasn't meant to house six and a half billion people! I suppose I'm wrong after all its just biology for us to reproduce... but if there was half as many people than there is today i doubt overfishing would really be as big of a problem as it currently is.

I agree 100%. If we were to be a little responsible and not have 4 kids a person (Who the heck wants that many to begin with!) the planet could support us much better. Biologically we have an instnct to spread our genes, but we need to control ourselves. If we can't in the future we may be faced with 2 options: Random euthanism, or government controlled reproducton licenses. Just a thought.

There are reproduction control mechanisms in place already, and they WILL correct the overpopulation issue eventually. They're famine, disease, and war. It's a little Four (3?) Horsemanish, but true nonetheless. Another, and more palatable option is economic development. Developed countries spontaneously reduce their birth rate, but they consume more, so maybe it's a wash as far as sustainability goes. But, if it is a wash, it's a much better situation because people aren't starving, etc. An overhaul of the "World" Bank and IMF would be an excellent start.

I was thinking a bit more along the lines of what china is doing-so many children to a couple, but those ways are fine too. I immagine eventually we have to join the 99.9% of organisms that have gone extinct since life first appeared on the planet.

I'm sorry, but imitating China is the last thing we want to do. And, we don't have to go the way of the dinosaur, that's the great thing about being intelligent with opposable thumbs; we aren't entirely beholden to the whims of chance, we can make choices about how to lead our lives.

Hey, its not that unlikely we will be saluting the chinese flag in the near future....or being shot for not doing so.

Besides I think that it would be foolish to think that our species would survive forever. Especially with talk of sending colonists to other planets. Humans off earth will probably evolve, And humans on earth would probably evolve, leading to 2 different species of humans...(yeah I know mentioning the off earth colonization isn't necessary. We will eventually evolve or die off, but I felt like mentioning it)

Anyways the odds that humans will never go extinct, through evolution, uncontrollable universal ways (supernovas, meteors, etc), killing ourselves off, or plague etc. are very very small IMO

(wow, I'm sitting here discussing the theoretical future of mankind in the ethics forum of a fish site. I need a girlfriend :D )

ha ha ya... It that when the meter is supposed to hit us, or was that the end of the Mayan calendar?

Pea-brain - i have a girlfriend and I'm still in the same forum as you, cheer up!

If it isn't good to eat fish, then why do they taste so good?
I understand that dogs luuuuuuuuuuuv the taste of radiator fluid.

I'm a vegetarian but I will tell you that neglecting to feed animals in your care properly is animal cruelty. People aren't natural carnivores and therefore should not be preying on other animals, but giving a cat vegetarian food is against nature and not in the best interest of the cat. Sure it grosses me out to handle this nasty home made fish food, but the creatures in the tank are going to eat the animals whether they are in there or in the ocean.

You can certainly say we don't need meat, but I don't think there is any argument to be made that we aren't natural carnivores. We have the teeth and guts of omnivores. Our closest relatives are omnivores. As far back as we can trace our history we've been hunting animals.

Yeah, our dentition and GI tract have omnivore written all over them.
