One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish...Complete My Stocking List With Me!

SkullV

They Got My Number
Hey all, just thinking about my fish stocking and what I can add that will be compatible with my current stock. Looking for some colorful fish (Red/Blue preferred). Considering Wrasses/Anthias but any recommendations are great! Fish must Be LPS/SPS safe. I like my current fish so please do not recommend I remove any of them to make another fish compatible.

Tank:
75g Display
30g Sump (17g water)
100lbs Live Rock
Plenty of filtration for "heavy" bio load

Current Stock:

  • 4" Copperband Butterfly
  • 2" Tomini Tang
  • 3.25" Mystery Wrasse
  • 2.5" Swissguard Basslet (would like to remove if I can ever catch it)
  • 2" Helfrichi Firefish
  • 2" Tail Spot Blenny
  • 1.5"/2.25" Pair of Ocellaris Clownfish

Considering but not firm on one or more of the following:

  • Trio of Lyretail Anthias
  • Male Flasher Wrasse (type undecided)
  • Cleaner Wrasse (Divers Den Only)

NO DAMSELS!! :jester:

I would go with a single Sunburst Anthias, if you feel the need to add more.

IMHO you have a very impressive stock list as it is. I would be hard pressed to tempt fate and add more. That is quite a collection of gems.

Do you really want to hear an analysis or not?

I know the fish i have now are fine, I also know I have room for more fish. If you think something on my "wants" list is not compatible I would love to hear it, or a suggestion of another fish.

Terrific. Good luck!

Referring to the Mystery Wrasse I presume. It is nearly full grown and is a model citizen thus far, even though thus far has not been a long time. While I do like my current fish I am not against removing them if they DO become a problem, I am just not one who will remove a fish because of their internet reputation.

P.S. No more PMs?

A LFS has had a 75 gallon display tank with anemones, sps, etc with about 12 fish in it for about a year and a half. Don't think your topping out at 7

Did you know that your copperband & tang are only half-grown and do you know how copperbands do in crowded tanks too?

I would agree. Your tank sounds full. You could add a couple nano gobies if you've got a serious fish itch to scratch. Perhaps a little cleaner goby and a Trimma sp.

You could also consider adding some inverts, again, if you've got the urge to add something. Cleaner shrimp perhaps. Porcelain crab?

For the record, number of fish is not an effective way to assess stock limits. To be extreme, 8 tangs/butterflies is quite a different load than 8 various gobies.

lol no he was referring to your fish infestation.

The copperband is likely more than half grown, and the tang is much less then half grown. I do know how copperbands do in crowded tanks, but I am still adamant that this is not currently an overcrowded tank. That being said I will wait a few months before I make any changes other than adding coral to see how things play out.

This I agree with. There is also a very large difference between a tank that is stocked to its limit through bioload and a tank that is stocked to its limit through fish psychology.

Do you really have to be so arbitrary all the time?

Many of the "experts" (some self proclaimed) on this site post often because they like to hear themselves talk. Steve is not one of them. I usually welcome and trust his advice, but that doesn't mean I will always agree with it. This is one of those times (although he has not elaborated on his post). You will find that it is members like curlykid that cause more harm and lead members astray.

If your tank is too crowded to happily house a copperband, that could be a problem. I don't know that species well. In general, I think you seem maxed out but would tend to agree you're not currently overstocked. Of course, I have a bit of a fish infestation myself. That's a funny phrase. As you say, behavior, psychology and also territory type and size play major roles in stocking limits. Its a delicate dance when you approach the limits. Good luck with your tank. Pic?
