Vanderloos Angelfish-variant (Chaetodontoplus vanderloosi)

It looks like a hybrid between the Blue-spotted, and the Black Velvet. Enjoy:D

The navy blue/purple lips leads me to "guess" it's a hybrid.

Yeah huh! That thing has a wicked mouth....is it mean? Looks mean now that I'm at home with my nice monitor.

Mean, no. But a very aggressive eater. Doesn't show much interest in veggies, but will eat whatever is floating around from the pigs making a mess. Nibbles on the LR all day, and eats jumbo mysis like it's the last supper. The Niger was a little hard the first day; since then things have cooled down.

Yes, it looks almost identical to yours. I believe mine came out of the Philipines as there was a blue spot that came in the same shipment and so far they have only been recorded around Cebu.

the orange and white is a harlequin tusk fish.

I beleive its in the grouper family, but I am probably wrong....

Large angels, what kind've diet does your prefer? I'm a little concerned; it's extremely carnivorous. Shrimp, scallop, octopus, krill, mysis is about all it'll eat at the moment. It'll eat Nori debris my other fish spit out, but nothing off the clip. Refuses spectrum pellets, and hardly nips at flake; seems to solely prefer meaty foods at the moment.

Titan*69: IME fish in this family seem to fixate on one type of food for a while. The vanderloosi would not eat the first two weeks and then only brine shrimp and after that mysis. My big blue spot angel (+6"), my aviatar, still won't eat more than one or two bites of Nori, but loves Spectrum pellets. It took 6 months for my grey poma to start eating pellets and flake. I just continue feeding variety foods and whatever food I'm trying to get one fish to eat is the first food I offer.

Thx, I was just concerned about the fishes health reflected by it's current diet. It looks immaculate; hopefully it stays that way.

Lisa, that's the Formosa Coris; a real beauty. Almost all it's juvy colors have faded, and it's growing like a weed. I've had it almost 2 years I believe, and it's grown from a 3" paper thin wrasse; to a 7" brute. I call this wrasse the fish that eats first.

I've dropped food directly in front of the two triggers, and before they've got a chance to take a bite, it's gone and the Coris is behind the rockwork eating it!

My Jansen's saddle wrasse is like that - the eels and the trigger go behind this one! I'd love to see a picture of the whole Coris. Can you post it here? Do they really get to be 2 feet long?

I'm glad the angel is doing well for you. It is just gorgeous!

For you, absolutely! It won't be till later this evening; not to mention the pic probably won't be too nice. It's hard to get a pic of him...always on the move.

As far as I know, the largest recorded Formosa is just a hair under 24". I'm expecting it to hit 18 maybe more; it doesn't really matter. I'm looking into a 375GL tank for when my fish "outgrow" the 210. I'll more than likely wait roughly five years, but that'll be the next set-up:D The tank I'm looking at is 80"Lx36"Wx30"H; I can't wait. I've got lots of time though.

Aquarium Obsessed is just a short drive from me, so I'll be looking to them for a starphire, with the back pane tinted black. So excited;)
