One Spot Foxface

All right,

I picked up a foxface from Saltwaterfish.com .... 3-4 inches... yesterday.

He initially did the usual Foxface timid reaction, including swimming on his side, coloration to brown during acclimation. I dripped him for 2 hours.

Now, he is seemingly excellent, swimming decently. Cruising, around the tank (scopas tang/2 clowns/goby/hippo tang/sixline)

I have feed the fish cyclopeeze and a mixture of red macro, mysis, and spirulina with gahlic guard. He has not had any appetite for these treats although the others engage assertively.

What foods are ideal for Foxfaces? BTW I have plenty of algae, and noticed the fish, eh, eating his feces - which was green and seemingly rich in algae. My tank has plenty of algae populating the rock. I hope to see him eat soon.

IDEAS?

Mine pretty much eats anything I throw in the tank. I give him dried nori on a clip every day as well. If your rocks have algae, he'll pick at that throughout the day. I've found Hikari Mysis to be a good starter food, even for herbivores like rabbitfish.

If it's only been a few days, I wouldn't worry. Takes them some time to settle in.

Also it will take time for it to learn that the new food is, well, food! Since there is live algae in the tank, it might take even longer. The fact the fish pooped is a good sign. It must be putting something in for it to come out!

Took mine a month or so to be really excited by a clip of nori. Now I feel like I should be playing the theme from 'Jaws' when the food goes in!

Give him a few more days to get used to things. Mine took a couple of weeks before he would eat nori on a clip (though he was eating everyting else within a week), but now he absolutely tears into it. He makes it difficlut to get the nori onto the clip since he aggressively atacks it as soon as it enters the tank, whether or not it's in my hand. He's my favorite fish.

Mine eats basically anything I put into the tank - nori, NLS pellets, and LRS frozen foods. Even went after fresh squid that I gave to my trigger as a treat the other day.

I give mine nori on a clip everyday. my wrasses and coral beauty also love it. I have not found a food that the foxface doesn't eat. biggest pig in the tank.

They can be very timid fish sometimes, but after a bit of settling he will be eating anything you throw in the tank... Including chunks of your arm if you aren't careful!

Don't forget that they can be stubborn sometimes though. I bought a Mag. FoxFace for $150 and I had it for about 5 days and it refused to eat. It literally starved itself to death. That was my birthday present from my parents to. *Im only 14*

Did you not QT him?

Well read...

I did not QT him due to his size. I have a 10g qt set up that has been good for clowns and the like. I did drip him with prazipro and vitamin c. He really colored up well during the acclimation although he was scared witless in the drip container.

i saw him taste some mysis last night. The rest of the fish (hippo... clowns... scopas... sixline) love cyclopeeze. Highly recommend for any finicky tailwaggers you may have.

I will fup w update on the fox.

I too have a 1-Spot. He eats anything. Algae will no longer be an issue for you with him in there. My 1S finished off all my algae and is now working on the bubble algae which is why I purchased him in the first place. Never thought I would want a 1S but I am loving this fish!

I HAD a hair algae/bryopsis problem. Great fish for algae issues. Algae GONE!

I *wish* my foxface ate algae in the tank. He used to, when I first introduced him, until he learned what a nori clip was. Now he swims up to the empty nori clip everytime I walk by and stares at me. Most of the time, he's super skittish and runs to hide at the sight of his own shadow....but if that nori clip is empty, man. Whole different ballgame.

Sweet fish, I'm quite fond of him (even if he won't touch his hair algae!)

Do you have a large setup in the works? You have 3 fish in there that are not suited longterm in a 55. May not be an issue now depending on the size of the Tangs, but it could be in a short amount of time.

Back OT, my Magnificent eats everything and anything. The most 'enticing' nori I have fed so far as Julian Sprung purple seaweed, though it enjoys green and red very much as well!

I've had a one spot before, I have a normal foxface now. It eats basically anything. It eats raw prawn, loves caulerpa that I harvest from my sump. Give it a chance to settle and all will be fine.
