Pitcher Hill Reef Society
Hey everyone so im officially starting off my NEW tank thread. ill be lookin for plenty of advice/criticism/help, so please post away!. I will make sure to post plenty of pictures as this comes together. But as of next week, i will be receiving a rimless Miracles Aquarium (100 gallon 72x18x18)

It has a 1.5 inch glass holes overflow, and 2 3/4" returns. The tank has a nice stand that i will be painting a semi-glassed black. The New canopy i will be making will be 72"x18" x18" and made of lightweight lewon ?sp. and painted black, with the bottom open so i can mount my reflectors in it. i will suspend the canopy over teh rimless tank about 10" off the surface by cables.

Here is a picture of the exact tank im getting in my friends house when we were setting it up

and there IS a front to that stand, but it comes off for easy storage and such.

here is a picture of my current setup, 75 gallon mixed tank up for 3 years. It has a 55 gallon sump in the basement, plumbed with a panworld 150 pxx return. Its powered by a radium 250 watt setup

so is this technically a shallow reef? hmmm i think that they have to be 12" of shorter. Darn. oh well

new problem i just found today. My thermostat will be right next to my new tank, so i should probably re-locate the thermostat huh? haha also i have to take down my alarm for my house, the control panel is in the way of the new tank also. Blah

I also have some new frags for the new tank, one of which is the Lokani 20,000 leagues under the sea :D.

you'll figure out the thermostat issue. you had some good ideas today. fishing it is the fun part. especially upstairs downstairs upstairs downstairs.

bought a bunch of my supplies today to build my canopy, should probably start working on it tomorrow. woohoo.

1x3's 6 ft long Pine.
thin oak sheets to back-lay behind the pine frames

and got some pressure treated 2x8's for my basement ceiling to brace it. I will also be picking up some adjustable support beams too

started framing my canopy today, should be pretty sweet when done. not too bad for a amateur wood worker lol

heres a quick shot of what im trying to do with the cuts and such from the from. Obviously not to scale and not the color ill be doing it in

okay, im getting more ready for the new reef day by day, heres ome pics from what ive been doing along with triathlon training lol. after this weekend i will have ALOT more time to work on this. i moved my thermostat and removed my alarm system that i dont have connected or working. i relocated the thermostat in my hallway where it wont be influenced by the tank temp and humidity. i also am pretty close to completion with my canopy! things are movin along!

okay, 100 gallon starphyre tank is empty and is awaiting my pickup. woohoo now the fun begins. I acquired some floor braces today too since it is a rimless aquarium i want to make sure its as level as it can be.

i still have to paint the canopy but i have a game plan now for hanging it.

heres where some help is needed. please lol

i have a big piece of live rock that currently has 2 decent sized encrusted colonies on it and 2 large anemones that have nuked portions of teh colonies. i thinkl when i go to arrange the new tank lay out im going for 3 rock piles seperated by aragonite. i was going to break and salvage what i could of the large colonies and reposition them on another island and leave the nems by themselves on the rock in the corner. will that be okay to break those encrusted colonies like that? i think thats all i can do hmmm pics to come

i have the new "dirty" tank in my possession right now, cant wait to clean it up.

got the first coat of semi gloss on the canopy, time to sand up the stand and get that thing painted too!

cleaned up the dirty tank, it cleaned up SO good....

im seriously starting to get excited about re-working this system. anyone interested in some free corals? im gonna chop a bunch of my stuff down and /or just get rid of it when i move the critters over. i love my corals but the brown stuff is going.

im gonna be doing the transfer probably in teh next week or 2. im wondering, should i do 2 40lb bags of sand? or keep the sand bed shallow? hmmm

also, when i transfer the sps im also going to cut the pieces above the STN line and re-glue them onto the rocks

i'd do one bag. thats all i have in my 90 gallon. some spots are a little more shallow and some more deep but thats my mp40s fault

yea i was thinking just the one bag would be a nice amount. i hope i dont have to add a 3rd light eeeek, im going to try to make it work with just the 2 radiums i dont wanna spend the extra money for a 3rd

any ideas for new fish to add to this thing. One big thing i want to improve on is my nutrient level, and the best way is to add fish.

I currently have and will be transferring.

2 ocelleris clowns
1 yellow watchman goby
1 melanurus wrasse
1 royal gramma
1 purple tang
1 long nose hawk

i was thinking about adding a sailfin tang eventually? or another species of tang that would get along with my purple

and a school of anthias
