Curious where people shop on the line for these goods.

I recently tried to order from Marine depot but they wanted like a 130$ to ship my order USPS....not oversized or anything. Needless to say they are off my list...shame good store, but I hate ridiculous costs for no perceived reason.

I usually buy from Bulkreef, but its still expensive to ship some goods from them....would be my go to place.

I have been mainly looking at skimmers and other than hitting bulkreef, aquacave, marine depot, tb , prem aquatics, foster smith...what else is a good spot?

I do Drs Foster, Marine Depot, Bulk Reef, and Amazon for my stuff. SOMEBODY in that group has to have it.

Are you sure? Their website says free shipping over $75, that should be free.

Yes.

It is bc it needs to be sent USPS, which normally is an additional fee, but typically within reason.....like 20-30$...not $108

This didn't make sense. MD & BRS ship free unless it's live food or very large or unusual items, if the order is $75 or above. A skimmer is a medium sized & light package. I consider this a good deal.

Were you shipping to a standard address in the lower 48 USA or do you live in the wilds of Alaska or a Pacific island? Or were you ordering for delivery outside of the USA?

Must be missing something....I have no such issues with these companies.

You are doing something wrong.

I purchased the same skimmer and it was free shipping from Marine Depot.

BRS also has free shipping on $75+ orders or if you signup for their member club its $50+

And hell, I order my salt 3 boxes at a time from Dr Fosters. And that is 100lbs+ and free shipping.

Now, if you are outside of the states, cant help you.

I'd rather cut Amazon out of the equation and see the profits go to a scrappy small company like BRS or MD...not Amazon. Bezos and his ilk kind of scare me...I'm afraid their trying to take over the world..... (Just kidding, kind of...)

Not even close. Overnight shipping is not free for Prime. 2 days shipping is free on all Prime *eligible* items

Not everything is Prime eligible.

Still worth the cost thought IMO

It's just easier for me. Living in a city without a car I get a lot of stuff from prime so it's part of the routine. They have all my card info on there and address and stuff. I don't store that info with brs because they handled a security breach pretty poorly last year. They denied it for a long time while customers were being hacked.

I think the last time I couldn't find what I needed from either Amazon or one of the fish vendors like bluezoo or reefcleaners, it was buying my rodi and for those purchases I like to go straight to the source so I got it from spectrapure anyway.

I used to live way out in the country, and had issues with deliveries similar to OP
If you have a good lfs they might get the skimmer in from their supplier for you?

Marine Depot is my go to store. I have to admit with them only two miles from my house I use the free will call option so it doesn't matter how much stuff I buy I can pick it up for free. Why do you have to use UPS?

Prime is free 2 day shipping and prime now is free 2 hour shipping on select items.

BRS is a multi million dollar company, they did over 16 million in revenue in 2013. I care about keeping more money in my family's bank account and not so much about supporting multi-millionaires.
