Onyx Clowns losing color due to bubble tips?

I have two baby onyxs' and want to get a small rose anemone for them. I have heard that some onxy's lose their black coloration when they host in an anemone? Is this true. Any cases?

my onyx lost a little of his black and became very aggressive. cleaning the the tank around the anemone is always interesting. THEY HAVE TEETH!!!:eek1: ]

My two Onyx were babies when I purchased them and put the in a NC with a BTA, so not sure about loosing black color. They are now almost 2 years old a maybe 75% black, 25% orange and of course the three white bars. The bigger of the two is more black than the smaller one. The spend most of there time in or around the BTA. And like ian20 says they are aggressive and food time, there teeth kind scatch me when I am feeding the corals. Little nippy. I like have the BTA in the tank with them and so do the clowns.

My wild caught percs (one couple onyx one almost onyx) all lost most of their black when in one of my tanks with a BTA. They spawned and were healthy, just not black.
When I moved them to different tanks they regained their black. One pair went to live in a gigantea carpet and the other pair adopted some fuzzy mushrooms. I don't know for sure if it is the tank or the BTA, but I am not the only one that has seen the clown's black fade in a BTA. However, there is a past thread on this topic and most perc owners did not report any fading of their onyx in BTAs.

I have some of my babies that are jet black in BTAs but have also watched some (that were also very black) loose their color within a week of being introduced to a BTA.

well I am kinda in a stand still right now. I don't want my clowns to lose their color. But I would really like to see them in a rose BTA. what would you guys do?

I would still get a BTA they don't lose there black it just fades a little it will come back if you remove the anemone and it's fun to watch them it the anemone.

I think I see the effect of the RBTA. This is truely sad, I love the RBTA as much as the clowns. I have 8 RBTA in the tank!

When I first got them a month ago.

My Clowns have lost some color in the RBTA, i would love to switch them over to a Gigantea or crispa someday soon.

I have a pair living in a H. Magnifica and a bunch in BTA's. After 2 and a half months the pair living in the H. Magnifica are not darker than the ones in the BTA's.

Judging from pictures I have seen of wild percs, it seems as though percs found naturally in S. gigantea tend to have large amounts of black where percs found in H. magnifica seem to have very little.

Whether this is a reaction to the anemone, a genetic difference or a combination of the two(probably), I don't know.
