onyx clowns

I got one on Thursday. It hooked up with my picasso immediately and moved into my hammer coral with her. It was about 5/8 of an inch long. Then my cleaner shrimp decided to snack on it. It was absolutely adorable and had a ton of black on it already.

I don't have any pictures. I was going to while it was hosting the hammer with my picasso but I couldn't find my camera.

The clown itself cost $40, perfect size and color for my tank and current resident clown, but after shipping and box charge, $100.59.

GSMguy did you buy them paired or single then paired them and how much would a nice one look be? how much did you get yours for?

I just got a pair from a local breeder...still babies though but coloring in quite nicely!

just having onyx parents does not guarantee onyx coloration. it is a reccesive gene.

unfortunetly many of the "onyx" bred in captivity do not develop onyx coloration actually i've never seen a pair that produces the black coloration in close to every fish, like rod.
exept of course the people who have rods fish and are breeding them.

rods fish are a result of multiple generations of selective breeding

I work at an LFS and see many onyx coming in just as "wild caught" but the amount of black coloring varies.

Sometimes there are half and hals where there is black between just hte first and second stripes.

The other relatively more rare and stunning ones are really dark black between all bands. Just gorgeous. They can look similar to Rods

yes but breeding them will probobly will not get you onyx babies. of course there are exeptions.

Chrisstie do they look like this? check out the bodyshape

Plus its always better to get Tank raised and support that part of the industry
