True Perc=Black vest/orange pants.Onyx= Black vest/Black pants....I would classify your fish as a True Perc, and a very nice one at that. Also the tail bar is full so I think your fish is older than 2 years,So I do not think the back flank will color any more.My opinion.

You mean the difference is orange/black pants. I don't understand which part it is. Could you teach me?

look at the pictures
Let me guess, you mean the body of onyx is almost black, but the body of true is less black. Right?

The white stripes/Bars are:(starting at the head)Collar,Belt,Sox.....The flanks are like shirt and pants.Behind the middle stripe(belt) is the rear flank(Pants).....Yes that is the main difference. There are several other differences...such as depth of blackness.Dirty head,Black Dorsal,Tanable VS Genetic. You are going to ask about that one so I will go ahead and answer....An Onyx that keeps its blackness in all light conditions is a Genetic Onyx. The ONYX that looses its color in low light is a Tanable Onyx. But then I am being picky.I need to be( see interest at the bottom of my post).

in my honest opinion all onyx clowns can lose their onyx trait, hard to say why but there are many factors that can influence this

The fish here. The Female is Wild Caught .She was the nicest Onyx I have ever seen.I have seen alot. The Male is C-quest Line, raised here. The male is totaly black now(old pic) the female has lost most all of her black.Same light, water,food...same every thing.

You are not being rude at all.I hope I am not being so.This place is for the exchanging of ideas. That is what we are doing.Be right back uploading new pics.Same fish today.Note the lower fins on to above crappy pic.

nice male, although perhaps it is not entirely lighting or the variables you mentioned being that it was wild caught perhaps the stress of coming into the aquarium as opposed to being in the ocean, as well as seeing many perculas brown out in perhaps bad water quality and or lighting. Is it safe to day that all wc 'onyx' lose their coloration or is it just hit and miss?

Lol don't mind it at all I'm learnin a lot lol.. Love all the pics.. I was supposed to get a pair of baby onyx picasso but a the lfs closed down.. I was goin to get both of them for $50
