Hi guys, I'm rather new to ReefCentral. Ive been doing Salt water for about 2 years now, I tried Corals when I first got it from a friend bit it must have been too soon as the water was still cycling and I dont think it was fully ready. At the time I had a Frog Spawn that lived about 4 months, and two zoanths that lived for about a month, then I ran into a prob with my skimmer and the Frog Spawn died too.
I've left it alone for over a year, mainly because I got busy, but everything has been great, water is great, fish are great, so I thought I'd take a stab at some Coral.
I went to my local store today and bought an Open Brain Coral. Now I am reading on the forum and im concerned mine may be 'bleached' or 'sick'? It came from the store white, neon pink, and neon yellow, and I thought that color looked amazing. They had others at the store that were bigger and more expensive but I went with this one. Any ideas if this coral is okay or do I have a problem?
Ive also read that they eat, so Im excited to try out mysis on it and see how it does. I tried to attach the bottom of the rock to another rock with some aquarium putty (AquaStik) but I dont have good luck with that stuff, it doesnt seem to 'adhere' well. Ive followed the instructions. However Im also reading they like to be on the sand bed? Any ideas or input?
Lastly is there anything else I need to know? I really appreciate the feedback. I hope I didnt jump the gun on this one, but I have the feeling I may have. Im willing to do the work necessary and take the suggestions, I just need some advice. My main goal is to have a good amount of coral in the tank to look great.
FYI - I have a 100 gallon glass tank, Reef Octopus skimmer, 4 power heads, and an Eshopps overflow. I have two grown clowns, a grown flame angel, a juvenille emperor angelfish, and just added a juvenille naso tang.
Thanks alot
