Open Brain Show Off Thread

So MANY variations, I love it!!! Keep on saying I'm going to purchase one and then the fiance reminds me we're currently buying a house and remodeling before moving in! Wish I could live in my fish tank!

What do you'all feed your open brains?? I was thinking about adding one of these beauties to my reef just curious on what type of food sourse and how often??

If your looking for a really good food for all LPS corals, this O.N food by Formula One is the best. Its not meant for corals, actually for fish, but my brain coral and frogspawn eat it so quickly, faster than any other food I've tried. I would definitely recommend it. You can check out SDguys thread on it.

Since I've tried this food (four days ago) I have been feeding each mouth 4 times every day for four days so far, and it hasn't vommeted any of it out yet. And it looks so much happier.

I'll post a pic of mine later.

are brains supposed or do better when kept on the sand? I noticed that in most people's pics thier brains were in the sand.

Brains are kept on the sand so their flesh has room to expand and not be hindered by a lr.

cut it with a dremel or something, up from the bottom... do not cut the flesh yet. either let the flesh separate naturally, or use a clean, new, sharp razor blade.

I don't think they mind nick. I kept mine on a rock for a month to test it out, and there was no difference between sand or rock, but I think sand is more ideal if you need the rock space for other corals, plus the brain has more room to spread out on.

I think I read that placing them on rocks erodes their flesh or somthing.

Heres a cheezy pic of mine eating Formula One food, it can literally eat a whole cube every day, but I don't feed that much.

These are pics of when I was testing how it would do on the rocks.

I think the trick is to make sure you get at least 1/2 of a mouth when you cut them.

I guess I will look into it a little more. Mine is getting pretty big so I wanted to see about having two instead of one :)
