The time has come.....to switch my 70 gallon to my 150 gallon....

current system (6 years mature) is filled with live rock, live sand, fish, corals...hammers, zoos, mushrooms, leathers.

The project must be a one day deal.....any suggestions to make it a successful day....a day with no losses.....

any experience on this??

This has been over a two year project....finally its time!

I have saltwater ready...more live sand cleaned and ready, basement sump ready, live rock thats been ready for about two years...buying piece by piece...

Any advice would be grateful.

Thank you!
Sean

My advice,

Use as much as the old water as possible.
Don't rush or you could cause a huge issue
Make sure all the tubes are in the right spots before you hit the power
Plan out the Rock Structure before you add water

Good luck!

After 6 years of maturity... a bucket or two of water to swish the rock around in before placing it into the new tank. Should help cut down on some of the cloudiness so you can see your stack job a wee bit better.

Thank you.

more thoughts welcome......

the 150 is going right where the 70 is now.....so i have to take it down, then drill my hole for the basement sump, then begin the process, set up 150, plumbing, sand, water, aquascape, fish coral....

Help.

Sean

plan things out step by step and follow protocol. Improvising is what gets me in trouble when I have to do projects like this.

You could do what I did and hire somebody to do it! Seriously, enlisting some help might be a good idea. This will take longer than you expect, so be sure to have a heater and powerhead in the container that houses your fish. Have plenty of freshly made saltwater ready. Better to have too much than not enough. I've done this twice without a single loss (except one Sexy Shrimp). Let us know how it goes.

o wear gloves! URS is keeping infectious disease doc's busy lately.

Best advice ever... http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1914675

Seriously though... Wear gloves, especially when handling the rock. Have plenty of rubbermaid containers for storing water and rock. Place a heater in them and a powerhead if you have it. This should keep everything the same temperature. Move quickly and according to the plan you lay out beforehand. Consider asking a friend or fellow reefer to help you out if possible. You can never have enough extra water either.

Here is my current basement sump setup. I tried to make it as automated as possible. It may give you some ideas.

get some help.have an extra can of primer around never know when you might have a spill.some silicone for leaky bulk heads.start the move on saturday just incase you need that extra day,you never know when murphy is gonna stop by. good luck

Thank you for all the input.....

The stand and canopy are being delivered on Friday....the switchover begins...

Andrew has signed on for my helper....Thanks bro!

I'm really hoping this is a one day event.....one long day....but i have been planning this for over 2 years....so I am more then excited.

My one concern is the sand....I have washed and washed the new sand and i just want it to be clear so I can get on the aquascaping....it will take me some time to scape it the way i want....I have about 200lbs of Tonga Branch and very unique pieces i have been collecting for over 2 years...

Here is my stand I have been waiting for.....it is getting stained today....

its a cherry stand.....

Being made and delivered by Jeff Hilliker he lives in Silver Creek. Great carpenter.

I cant wait....I will do a build thread when I can...

God Bless,
Any more advice is always welcome!

that box is only a templet that he built to make sure the tank fits.....the stand and canopy are lined in white sheets of some type of thin pvc....its really cool, easy wipe off, write on material.
