If you do decide to open up this buisness you may want to focus you initial efforts on selling to every Doctor, Lawyer and buisness owner you can find. Don't just sell the fish/equipment, but sell you services maintaining these tanks as well.

Remember that your success doesn't depend on your ability as an aquarium keeper, but as a buisness manager.

I owned my own fish store in 91. I started it with 10,000 then I Took a loan out for 20,000 six months later. I closed the business six months later. I started by purchasing a fish store that had been in business for 45 years out of a garage. It will cost more then you think. It cost more then 10,000 to set up a nice 210 to 300 gallon tank not including anything else. as far as a partner it can be hit or miss. it is a second set of eyes to keep you in check. remember you need to work together to make this work. communication will be the most important. how much will you take out if you have a profit. when will you take it out. what do you do if you don't have the money to pay the bills. I believe if you want to do this right start out of your house with a personal tank and go from there. If you have any questions email me at schlegeln@comcast.net
